Chapter 86

Not long after the demon had sliced his own throat, Sawyer and Jacek rushed to the cemetery, the demon's racist totem pole magic now gone. He'd helped me fight off Paul even though he didn't have to, and for that, I allowed myself a second to be sad about him. He was still an asshole though. Anyone who tried to drag me to hell against my will to marry his boss would always wear the asshole badge in my book. So, it was a good thing this was my book.

"Eddie, what the hell, man?" Jacek knelt next to me at Eddie's side, took my hand, and squeezed, offering enough comfort in that simple action so I could breathe again.

"Are you all right?" Sawyer bent to cup my cheek, his amber eyes scanning my body for injuries, then down at Eddie, then over at the dead demon.

"Fine," I said. "But this was not how I wanted to spend the night. Trust me. I staked Eddie, not on purpose, I promise. I swear I won't make it a habit."

Eddie released a pained laugh that sounded a lot like a hiss.
