A Godless World

The winds brushed across my face. In only a few hours, it would begin.

I'd been reminiscing while preparing. The funeral had ended a few hours ago, with only me and a few neighbors present. The family didn't have many social contacts, and even visits from neighbors were rare.

I didn't know anyone there.

My eyes stared at the cliff's ledge; it was the same one my family always had picnics on. They loved such mesmerizing scenery.

'How…? I just regressed. I couldn't have changed the world that much by simply killing a few dumbasses.'

'So how? Why?'

I sat, my chin resting atop my left knee. The location was definitely beautiful.

'Faceless…'

I hadn't been able to figure it out. Why did my parents and little brother not have a face? And why did my neighbors not notice? Why didn't they suspect something? I'd tried mentioning it, but they looked at me as if I were crazy, then brushed it off as the mumblings of a depressed person.

Earth was a stable place at the time. It was normal, without the effects of mana and the Desirer's Summit.

So why?

I didn't know. And no matter how much I tried, I couldn't think of a reason, either. Eventually, I pushed the matter to the back of my mind, releasing a painful sigh. I stared at my watch, a silver sports watch.

[22:34]

An hour and a half more.

Realizing I should make my move, I stood up, brushing the dirt from my clothes while staring at the dark, stormy sky. The prelude to the "Day Of Destruction" was about to begin. I needed to be ready.

I took off running, my eyes containing determination.

I traveled across the city. It took a few minutes, but I arrived at a tiny building. The building was beige, with paint scraping off its walls. The top had a broken vent, with a few crows screaming loudly.

Many ignored this shop during my previous life, myself included. However, we weren't aware it'd be the best starting point.

A vintage shop that sold medieval weaponry and items.

Quite simple, but incredibly effective.

I walked in, ignoring the cobwebs that engulfed the shop. Pulling out a wad of cash, I poured it atop the counter, surprising the chubby man before me. His eyebrows rose in surprise, his eyes widening.

Cash was obsolete… specifically, the green currency I possessed.

Only coins mattered in the Desirer's Summit.

"...T–This much money!"

"One longsword, a scabbard for the sword, and 3 daggers with external pouches. Oh, also, a bag to carry the dagger pouches."

The chubby man raised an eyebrow, cocking his head at the strange request before quickly pacing away. A minute passed before he returned, the items Aiden wished for in tow. He spread them out atop the counter.

A few onlookers adopted confused expressions, rushing away as I caught their gaze.

I might have looked a bit crazy.

Well, the same people would die in the tower.

They could choose not to enter the tower, but I didn't know what would happen to them. I hadn't exited the tower after entering it initially, so I wasn't aware of the things that occurred on Earth after my departure.

I guess I wouldn't know.

Well, it was probably fine.

I stared at the sword, caressing the smooth metal with my fingers. It was terrifyingly sharp. The hilt was a dark shade of brown, while the handle was a light gold hue. I quickly shoved the sword into the brown scabbard, strapping it to my waist.

As for the dagger pouches, I placed them into a tiny bag, slinging the pitiful piece of fabric across my shoulders.

Bidding the shopkeeper goodbye, I left his shop.

As the wind brushed across my face, I made my way towards the 'Bryxton Tower,' where the entrance to the tower would open; at least, for the residents of my town. Everyone inside the Bryxton Tower would automatically be teleported inside.

There wasn't much else I could do before entering the tower, so I simply waited outside the monument.

A bit of time passed, and a man wearing a police uniform approached me.

"Excuse me… May I ask why you're carrying a sword?" The cop inquired, his eyes glued to my scabbard. Well, I guess it was too out of place… I should've expected that. Carrying a sword was technically legal, but if I showed ill intent, the cop was allowed to arrest me.

"Oh, I was just waiting for someone. We're doing a play tonight for the New Year's."

"I see! What kind of play is it?"

A vein bulged from my forehead.

Mind your own business, fuckwit.

"It's about a person who goes back in time with the sole purpose of destroying those who wronged him."

"That's quite basic."

You damned…

I held myself back. There was no point fucking this guy up. Instead, I glanced at my watch before revealing a genuine smile.

"Yeah, I guess it is quite basic. But there's a plot twist."

"Oh yeah? And what is that?"

"The main character is a murderer that 'loves' killing police officers."

The cop's expression changed almost instantly.

"What does that mean?"

"He loves drinking the blood of police officers. He hates them so much that he carries three knives in his bag, and a sword at all times. Do you know why? So he can stab them when the time comes."

The police officer backed away, muttering a few words in his walkie-talkie. Before he could approach me again, I did a 'slitting my neck' motion, smiling devilishly. I felt his body shiver at my motion.

He pulled out a gun.

At that moment, thunder slammed into the ground, the sky adopting a hue that indicated the approach of a heavy storm. The Bryxton Tower glowed before my eyes before a translucent, blue screen appeared before my eyes.

[Enter the Tower now for the opportunity to become a God!]

Liars.

A 'God' didn't exist within the tower or outside it.

There were Stars, Spiritual Lifeforms, and Mortals.

That was it.

It was a Godless word.

Shaking my head, I took a few steps forward.

My vision darkened.
