Emmie was thankful when she got back to their
classroom. Their subject teacher wasn't still there and only
Oddette was looking at her with the same foreign look on her
face.
"I used the washroom," she responded
"What happened to you? Why didn't you take your
lunch? I kept on waiting for you. You said you will follow me,
but you didn't," she complained. "Are you still upset because of
the score you got in our exam?" Oddette knew that she's
disappointed with what she got.
"Don't worry; you will cope up in the next exam."
Oddette said, consoling her. Sometimes, she feels jealous of her
own best friend. Having parents by her side to support her with
whatever decision she makes along with her brother. Her friend
didn't have to endure the pressure and stress from the abundant
amount of workloads just to get passing grades.
"I was talking to Sir James earlier. He offered to help me
with my tutoring after class. What do you think?" she asked.
"Really? That's so kind of him!" Oddette said. Her eyes
looked like it was shining for a moment, she frowned. I guess her
friend doesn't find her teacher malicious or a predator that can
bite a prey out of nowhere.
She shook her head.
It was already time to go home when she saw her teacher
talking with Miranda and Alfred. It looked like they were
discussing something important as to how they were eyeing the
two of them, Oddette and her with a strange expression on their
faces.
As they closed the distance between the five of them,
Alfred turned to speak.
"Here she is," he said. Did James already talk about her
tutoring classes among them?
She stared at her friends with a weird expression on her
face.
"Emmie, your class adviser told us something," Miranda
said. She only remained silent, nodding as a response.
"I think it would be better to call him at home," Alfred
suggested.
A confused look engulfed her face. "Is it okay for the
two of you?" she asked to which the couple nodded.
"Of course, it is," Miranda uttered. "Besides, it's your
house Sweetie."
Along the way to their house, the boys managed to stay
in the living room while Miranda and Emmie went their way up
towards their room to change clothes. She only took out a blue
shirt from across her closet and track pants to go with it.
"Before we start, do you want anything to drink?" she
asked him when they were now together in a room.
"No, I'm fine. I had a glass of water already. Alfred just
gave me," he said, pointing towards the empty glass on the side
table.
"Oh sorry, I didn't notice," she weakly said.
"No, it's okay. I'm happy with your hospitality. Should
we start?" James asked.
Emmie took out her textbook and handed it to him. They
then started with the lecture only for the time to pass by.
Because of how engrossed she was with the lecture, she
didn't think time would fly so fast. She only noticed the clock
when the wind blew coldly from across the window.
The couple hasn't made their way down yet. What's up?
"I'm sorry, I didn't notice it was almost seven," she
pointed out when they were now at the last page of the first
tutoring class. "Let me just finish this one and I'll make dinner,"
she added.
"That's so nice of you, but why don't we wait for Alfred
and Miranda?" James asked.
"They might have fallen asleep," she replied.
"You think so?" he asked. "Alright then, finish that last
problem set and head to cook if you want to," he suggested to
which she agreed.
After a few minutes she finally finished solving it. She
handed the paper to her teacher and then crept her way towards
the door, not until she heard a knock.
Upon opening it, her eyes widened in shock. She didn't
expect what was before her eyes.
"Happy birthday," James was the last to greet me. His
eyes were fixated only at mine as he mouthed, "I hope you're not
mad at me. I didn't know anything about this," he said. I only
nodded and went past him, staring at my best friend.
"I didn't tell anyone," she said in defense. "Teacher
Miranda just told me earlier that they're going to give you a
surprise," Oddette explained.
"Oh come on Sweetie. Don't be mad, cheer up," Miranda
said, smiling from ear to ear. "Don't ruin your day," she added,
embracing her into a tight hug before fixing dinner.
"We're now your new family, don't think you're alone,
okay?" she continued as she went to me and gave me a hug
again. I can't restrain myself anymore from not crying. Tears
started streaming down my cheeks. I wanted to skip my birthday
so much that I forgot about those people who cherished me
deeply in their heart. I wiped the tears in my eyes and hugged
them back.
They're my new family
