Chapter Thirty-Three: Seeds of Betrayal

I remember when I was around nineteen; I had served for a dinner party Demi had hosted.

Most of the moments from that night had long but faded but I think there was a part in particular that would always stick with me. In the same way, trauma often does.

I didn’t know I was a shifter yet. Until then, I thought I was just another child placed in an unfit foster home. One I hadn’t yet escaped from.

My whole life up to that moment, I was taught that shifters were these monstrous creatures who sometimes looked like human beings. Just like all of her dinner parties, this had been the main topic of conversation.

I’m not sure what about that particular part of the conversation captured my attention at first or who had said what has stayed with me all these years. That wasn’t what landed it in one of my core memories. The part that stuck involved something that the party guest referred to as ‘assigning property’.
