I woke in the early morning hours. Lavender was curled up in almost a fetal position beside me in the bed. I covered her with the comforter as I slipped out of bed.
I was going to meet with the mysterious ally who had been radio silent for the last two weeks. That feeling of unease hadn’t eased up. It only seemed to feel heavier.
As I descended the staircase, Goliath’s door opened.
“You are up awfully early,” he said with a knowing smile.
This hadn’t been the first night that I had done this. Walked around the house in the middle of the night to cure my restlessness. It never failed. I would get up about the time Goliath would head to bed.
“You can’t sleep either I see,” I replied and shook his head.
