An Awkward Phone Call

Skylars POV

It was nearing close to the date I was supposed to move in, I spend the mornings and afternoons packing up my room, and my own personal bathroom essentials. I spend the evenings and nights sleeping in my treehouse.

I made up my mind, I am using some of my money, as well to move my treehouse. A crane or some sort of claw should be able to take it off the tree. Or I'll have to take it apart and reconstruct it.

There is still a completely massive tree in the backyard of my childhood house, and I'll be able to have it still. You may think it's childish, but I love this, and even as an adult, it is still my quiet place. My safe haven. So, I'm not leaving it.

As much as I have been busy, my mind kept going back to Kade. I really want to talk to him. I felt ashamed that I added the 'I miss you' part. But I'm glad I sent something. My life has been complete shit and the happiness of leaving soon has completely enveloped me.

I babied the whiskey and vodka bottle until I eventually broke down and bought a couple more bottles of both. Before I move and after, I'm celebrating and having a mini party of just myself. I'm finally going to pamper myself.

Yesterday I got in contact with my boss and explained everything that's happened, and why I wanted to leave. She agreed to let me have a few weeks off, with paid time off still.

I'm so ecstatic and happy, finally, for once a smile cannot stop blooming over my face, and I love it. I am so excited to leave and have a fresh start. I needed this. I needed this a long time ago.

My gut twists and a lump forms in my throat as I say the words out loud, "I was always too young to do it, and too weak. Now I'm ready to leave." I stated.

I try to ignore it, as I suddenly want to be happy and grab one of the bottles of each kind of liquor I bought earlier, and poured myself a full cup. I sipped it fast, and before I knew it I has sipped it all, as a tear slides down my left eye.

"God. Since when did I become such a crybaby?" I grumble to myself and pick up my phone, and slide it open.

My fingers automatically go to the messages between Kade and I, and I bravely click on the call button. I take a deep shaky breath in, as I bring it up to my ear and hear it ringing.

My heart jumps in my throat as I hear a click and then I hear Kade's voice, "Skye?" Skylar Marie, is that you?" He said and I noticed his voice sounded really deep.

'Well duh. You haven't seen him in just about eight years, you're all grown up now.' I thought to myself and noticed I had spaced out.

"Skye, are you going to say anything?" He asked.

"Y-yeah, I just-I didn't expect you to pick up." I took a deep breath in when I had a hard time speaking, and exhaled fast.

I hear Kade chuckle on the other end and the melodical sound made my lips automatically come up into a wide smile.

"What have you been up to?" He asked and I could hear his line crackle, either the signal was slightly interrupted or he was moving around on his end.

"Well, I have my own company." He started off and I leaned my head to the side, relaxing into my pillows as suddenly the sort of silent-ish Kade on the other end is animately talking about his company. Which is of a law firm. He is the CEO of the biggest law firm suit in the world, I would rely the name, but I could not for the life of me remember the name, it was something like United States Beaerour of Cherryville or something like that.

But what did stick was when he accidentally let slip was that he had a fiance, he was explaining that he was always so busy but that he and his finance still get through the tough times. I gulped, suddenly feeling less inclined to want to stay on the phone.

I shift uncomfortably, "Oh, your fiance? How long have you been engaged?" I asked half wanting to know, he was a nice guy from what I could remember and I was happy he finally found love.

"For about six years now." He recalls and my gut twists and I struggle to keep my smile, I was confused. I was happy he found someone, but now I am not as bubbly as I was when I first started talking to Kade. The warm bubbly feeling abruptly left my body and I noticed, I hadn't filled up my third cup.

I did just that putting the phone on speaker as Kade is talking about how he and Amelia met, but I was distracted with the solo cup I brought in earlier today, my eyebrows furrowed and, I cleared my throat interrupting him momentarily.

"So, I uh-I'm moving back to Cherryville," I said and held my breath.

"What, when? Where?" He rushed out and actually sounded intrigued and interested, almost excited.

I smiled a little as I stare at the wall straight ahead in the treehouse, "I'm coming back tomorrow actually. I'm moving back into my old house." I said and breathed out.

"Oh wow. That's cool. What made you want to come back to your old house?" He asked.

'For a fresh start'

"To try to get back in touch with myself. A lot has happened since I moved." I breathed out abruptly and tried not to get emotional.

"Oh. Well, I'm sorry something happened to you, but if it makes you feel any better, I still live in my house, right across the street from your house." He mused.

My eyes opened really wide, "Seriously? We need to get together so we can catch up! That is so cool." I said excitedly.

My heart started pounding really fast, and my hand that was holding the phone started to sweat.

"Yeah, we absolutely should. Yes? Alright, I'll be right there!" Kade yells out, and I immediately lose my smile and already know what he is going to say.

"I gotta go Skye." Kade said, and his voice held a sad note.

One that rang in my heart like a stake. So badly wanting to reconnect with my old best friend, the burning curiosity I have to see what life he has now. I miss him too, missing being able to stare into his eyes as I tell him my day.

Our friendship is way different than Allie Mae's and I's friendship.

She's is my sister, my twin basically. But something is different about my and Kade's friendship. I desperately wanted to be able to be his friend again. But I won't push it, I'm not even back in Cherryville yet.

"Alright Kade, bye." I made my voice light and clicked on the red end call button before he could respond.

I swallowed a lump in my throat, and it made my stomach twist in ugly ways, I knew he wouldn't be able to talk to me long, but it was cut so much shorter than what I thought.

I sighed heavily and clicked my phone closed as I look at the night sky through my window, I sipped the rest of my drink and silently reveled in the fact I could keep my treehouse. Thoughts flit to it as I look about the walls remembering I won't be leaving my treehouse, the lamp that hung on my wall, illuminated only a little bit of the walls, but seeing it all and knowing I could keep it, made me smile once again.

The liquor making itself intensely present, as I lay back on my bed, feeling the sheets beneath me, and tipping back the rest of the solo cup, I down the rest and plop back on the bed, feeling waves of intense tingles flow through my body. I close my eyes and feel an intense throb down at my center that I just couldn't ignore.

His dark eyes shoot lasers right through me and-my hand automatically goes down and my hand snakes around my underwear, I'm wearing a fluffy white tank top and shorts. I groan and shudder when my finger comes into contact with my center and I can't help it.

"Oh my god." I moan out lowly as I increase my tempo, going faster and faster, and my right-hand shoots out to grip my bedsheets and I whimper as I very quickly come to the edge and fall off of it, being considerably quiet except for the moans and whimpers that come out as my body releases.

I hear quiet mumbling and notice it's a male's voice. I immediately become aware of my surroundings and notice my phone's screen is lit up.

I scramble over to it and notice the green bar up top of the phone and my whole body freezes. The call was still on. To Kade. It's no longer on speaker, but I can distinctively hear him say something.

I shake violently as I bring the phone up to my ear, "Hello?" My voice was a husky low octave still trying to get over the intense waves of pleasure knocking my body almost over onto the bed.

"Skye?" Kades voice booms out and I notice his voice is a little darker, almost deeper than the last time, I heard it.

I gulp, 'fuck. He totally heard that.'

"Did you just…" He let his voice trail off.

My face flared up burning hot instantly, he heard. My heart sped up, and my lungs started to collapse in on themselves, I had a little bit of trouble breathing.

"Fuck." I mutter under my breath and hear Kade laugh.

"Um. It's okay. Everybody does it. But I will end the call this time. Just to be sure." Kade says, but I can tell there was something still off to his voice.

"Okay." I stammer out.

I hear a click-click sound and looked at the phone, and saw no green bar up top. I sighed and relaxed into the bed once again, but my heart still didn't slow down and it was still a little hard to breathe.

Kade heard me. He heard me get myself off. Right after getting 'off' a call with him. How mortifying! How the hell am I supposed to face him tomorrow or whenever he wants to meet up?

Simple. Avoid him. That was completely crazy and wild. I cannot believe that just happened, still. I lie awake all night and into the early morning, just staring at the wall, feeling complete regret and mortification sweep over me.

But eventually, sleep won over and my eyes closed of their own accord, and I was thrown into a crazy swirl of dreams, including the pair of eyes I can't get out of my head.
