Elissa and Harold's Suspicion

Technically, it's against the rules for them to introduce themselves. However, that is only for the crossers' sake of meshing into the human culture. I have studied twice as much as the other students and have more access to information. I do not need this crutch.

The two glanced at each other. According to the crosser interaction guide they are not allowed to state their name on the first meeting. This is to help humans communicate with the crossers more easily. It's a bit of a cheat, actually. However, this is one of the cultural easement rules that can be overlooked depending on the education and adaptability of the crosser. Not to mention that I asked for it myself. It's a rule to help the crosser--not the human--in human society.

"World Connection Earth L Facility Executive Elissa Barns and Specialist Harold Covington."

"Nice to meet you. I'm S-rank Adventurer Nominee Crosser Mary Agent Valnr."

"S-rank…" Muttered Dr. Harold. "Once our records are confirmed, we will transfer you to your proper ward." he didn't seem to believe it, but still showed a polite front.

I waved my hand, "I'm no longer S-rank, so there is no need for that. This room is fine."

Harold snapped to attention and turned serious, "It is not just the rooms. They will have the knowledge and attention required for your current circumstances. Although we cannot take full responsibility for this incident that does not mean some of it does not fall on us. We will still try and support you with the resources and personnel that we have agreed to in the contract while you are at the facility." He probably worked there or was in charge of that ward. A flush of embarrassment heated up his cheeks as soon as he spoke. As if he's just realized a mistake.

I'm now disabled, so I probably wouldn't be allowed in.

"I see, so I'm on my own once I've taken up my post, is it?" I joked. He didn't respond. "I understand. Just this is more than enough, thank you."

He nodded. He opened his tablet and handed it to me. "Please fill this out as honestly as possible. To confirm there will be some tests…" He paused and glanced at me. My body wouldn't hold up to the tests needed to confirm my energy levels. "We only need enough to confirm your identity." He coughed into his hand.

Something in my gut was telling me there was something wrong. I didn't know what it could be so I ignored it for now.

I didn't mind that they wouldn't be able to completely fulfill their end of the contract. I signed the agreement, after all. Understanding any and all consequences and that neither party can be held responsible if something outside our control goes wrong. This agreement also accounts for any unknown scientific findings. Honestly, with a mixed folio like this, it's a wonder I didn't end up dead. If I had ended up dead even my family wouldn't have been able to receive compensation. Not that I have anyone left over there.

I filled out the paperwork. It was mostly basic information. My education, medical, authorizations, capabilities, assigned mission placement, etc. The tablet wouldn't read my touch a few times so I had to press the screen over and over. It's because the flow of energy in my body is irregular.

The paperwork took me about 20 minutes to complete. At that time Harold did a body scan. Harold put the scanner on the table in front of me at the proper height and turned it on while I worked. It measured the energy leaking, and the overall state of my body, and checked for a few easily-identifiable diseases.

The scanner couldn't read my total energy because I had to hold it down. That wasn't its purpose, anyway. The scanner is a convenient way to check someone's body's state. It's usually used going in and out of dungeons. Its main use is to confirm there are no parasites or monsters acting as humans. The scanner in front of me is for use in the facility to check the state of a crosser's body.

Finally, I returned the tablet to him. He quickly saved and left the page to check the results of the scan. "Leaking is approximately level 160, organs are in a mildly deteriorated state." He didn't mention any sickness or disease, so I was healthy. Other than my body breaking down. His expression didn't change as he read out the results. Harold read back over it a few times before I saw his hand move again. He was probably going back to check out the information I'd filled out.

"If this is true, you have an extremely fine control of your magic." Elissa side-eyed me.

I couldn't blame their reactions. Energy leakage levels of 160 would mean my energy is 160-180. According to my claim of having an energy level of more than 300, I'd be suppressing over 100 levels of energy in me right now. Not many are capable of such a feat.

The amount one can suppress depends on the control of their energy.

Anything above 200 is already a talented genius. They probably haven't met anyone over 250. 248 was the energy level of a popular crosser, Spencer Gunnerson is his human name. He was the face of the adventurer guild and was hailed as a hero. There was only one known crosser with a higher rating than him. Nath Bandier was the first official crosser. He helped make the crosser guide books. He set the president for crossers for our kind and humans alike. He was the only other crosser that had over 300 energy.

If it weren't for Cleo, my lifelong partner, going to the human world and then going missing I would never have been allowed either. Honestly, such a high energy level isn't that unusual for my kind. Not many of us even want to go to the human world. In human terms, grunts and commoners are the only ones who want to bother with such a bothersome thing. Our rulers have nearly limitless access to energy.

Humans call it magic. Energy wasn't limited to creating fire and ice, but they called it magic regardless because that was what they saw of it. Energy is actually more of a life source to us. Maybe something similar to the soul of a human?

"You've written down your magic control as rank 5," Harold said seriously.

Four eyes suddenly snapped to me.

I could see their minds racing. Such a strong energy wielder would certainly turn the tides in the war against monsters. They were thinking about ways to use my energy. If I was lying, I was a risk. If I was telling the truth there was a huge loss.

My energy levels were outside of the allotted 60 between physical levels and energy levels. That meant I am officially a disabled member of society. How could they use still use me without me ending up dead? Or maybe they were thinking about a way to get the best use out of me despite the state of my body. Even if it means I end up dead.

They were trying to figure out the chances of what I said being true. Calculating the energy shown against my proclaimed levels means that I have nearly 40% control over my energy. Most students can only control within 10-20%. Gunnerson had a rank-3 control. Meaning he could control 30% of his energy perfectly.

"I don't understand your surprise. Wasn't this information sent over a long time ago? It should have noted me." I tried to keep a smile and a friendly tone of voice.

I was practically a VIP. There was no way they hadn't prepared for my arrival. I had a bad premonition. A lump clogged my throat. I took another swig of D1 before my emotions decided to melt my organs. I ignored the stabbing pains all over my body and kept my expression and emotions level.

Elissa voiced my fears. She shook her head, "After the problems with the folios we went over the list again. The names were randomly taken from our previous lists. We didn't notice because it didn't have anyone within 40 years on the list. You are the only success in your batch. The last survivor died before we came over."

I spat blood.
