The Kralin

(RHEA'S POV)

Hori let out a blood curling scream. That was what took me out of the frozen state. At that moment, it was like my mind had started working and I thought of one thing at once: the pups! The young ones!

I gasped and turned around running as fast as I could towards them. Jodie had still not seen the creature because it was still some distance away.

"We have to go in now and hide at once!"I ordered panicking and ushering as many of the young ones as I could.

"What is-" Jodie started asking and then a loud screech pierced the vicinity around us.

I heard a very loud growl and turned around just in time to see Hori transform in to a big brown wolf and disappear in to the trees and I saw the Kralin flying after her.

Fear gripped my heart as I said a silent prayer for my Step sister, I tired to quickly guide the children but there was no time to go back to the house and so we hid in the garden behind the trees and furntiture. We were split in to two groups and I watched the other group with Jodie from a short distance .

The kids had been a little rowdy at first but we did our best to calm them, it's a good thing that Jodie and I have established a good communication relationship with them.

I could see the fear in their eyes, they had not seen the Kralin because I had covered them and Jodie had done the same. But they had heard the screech and they could see how scared we were. Jodie had seen the Kralin and she looked as terrified as ever.

I felt very scared. My heart drummed in fear as I shivered. Kralins don't come out in the daytime. Or at least that has never happened.

What was going on?

And then I heard the loud screech again and one of the children gasped. I held her tightly and rocked her gently in order to calm down.

I could hear what sounded like the wings of the Kralins now and it sounded even closer. It sounded like it dropped to the ground and then stopped. I could hear it though, it's feet walking calmly and carefully.

I was relieved, no one made a sound. No one. Even the younger one that was scared had calmed down under my hold and she did not make a sound.

Jodie and I stared at each other from afar as we silently communicated with our eyes. I could tell she was terrified. Why wouldn't she be?

And then I heard the wings of the creature again and it sounded like it was being lifted off the ground and then I heard the sound of its wing sounding farther. It was flying away.

I sighed feeling a little bit relieved to think that if the noise was sounding farther away, then it had to mean that the creature was going away. But it did not make me stop being worried. Perhaps for just a second because then I had to go back to thinking of what exactly I was going to do.

How could we get help to us? Perhaps I would make sure that everywhere was silent for a few minutes and I will risk an attempt to go and call for some help. The fact that this orphanage was farther from the heart of the pack made it harder.

And somehow I did not think that I will feel comfortable leaving the young ones with only Jodie. That may be too much for her to bear, she was terrified as well.

And just as I was trying my best to think of what next to do, one of the young ones with Jodie started to cry. Jodie tried her best to silence the young one calmly but the noise of cries even got louder. And just then, I heard a loud screech and the sound of approaching wings.

My heart started drumming loudly. The Kralin was back and the young one was still wailing loudly. Jodie looked like she had turned in to a ghost with so much fear written all over her pale face. All the young ones now looked scared and they looked like they might even join in crying soon.

The sound of the wings stopped at once and we heard it just in time as it's feet stopped on the ground.

I thought fast as I heard it approaching us and giving Jodie a nod and saying to her "please take care of them" , I rolled out and as quietly as I could moved away from the garden through the back.

I could see the creature now, walking towards the garden. My heart gripped in fear at the sight of the large scary creature walking as it's huge wings dragged the ground.

I hurried to the front of the house and blew a whistle with my mouth. The creature stopped instantly and turned around with its eyes focusing on me immediately. It paused at first and so did i, scared.

And then it dashed towards me screeching still.

I ran inside the house and that was when I realized that I had not made a plan, I had just rushed to do this because of the young ones.

The Kralin's wing broke down through one part of the house. The part which I was standing on and I gave a yelp, jumping to the other side as quickly as I could. I was lucky to hit the hard smooth ground with my face as I rolled on my side.

I heard the Kralin give an annoyed screech and then it broke down the windows on my side. Sunlight streamed in just as I saw the Kralin began to pop his head in through the broken window. Quickly, I looked around me and my eyes settled on the mirror, I grabbed it in a flash and redirected the streaming morning sunlight at the creature's eyes.

It gave a loud screech and flew in to the trees backwards. I rushed to the window to see it crash in to the trees and then I heard a growl, at the same time a big brown wolf jumped out of the trees.

It was Hori! And she had been hiding in the trees.

My eyes widened in panic as I saw the Kralin fly up again. I hurried outside just as the Kralin was flying towards Hori who was dashing towards the house approaching me directly.

The Kralin charged at her and I pushed her sideways and was taken with a swoop at the house. I hung on to a wing quickly and it saved me from a more disastrous fall.

I groaned in pain as my body hit the floor, after crashing in with the creature. Pain cursed through my body, something had pierced my side. I could not move and so I had to pull out the long piece of iron that had pierced the side of my stomach holding myself as blood dripped.

And that was when I heard a snarl. It was from the Kralin, it charged at me in an instant and adrenaline shot through my body.
