Chapter Fifty Three: The Internal Battle
Days had now passed, and Ember had still not awakened or made any form of progress. Penny was growing increasingly concerned whilst Raven tried to assure her that it was a process that would take time.
" What if she doesn't wake up? " Penny asked, something she had asking herself over and over again.
" She will wake up. But she will be different. Going through that always changes people" Raven answers as she begins preparing some tea for both herself and Penny.
" What is it like? " Penny asked as Raven poured the tea into two small cups. " Well it's different for everyone that has been through it. But usually, they face their fears. Which have been twisted and manipulated to torture their minds. Nothing is off limits in there, everything will be used against you. It breaks you down until you are nothing but pieces and then rebuilds those pieces into something that is never quite the same as It began. Sometimes, people come out and don't speak at all. And other times, they come out and they are..different..in a bad way" Raven tried to lessen the severity of how bad things could be because she knew it would only make Penny worry more. " But, some people have come out and after a long time, they finally work through it but..it's difficult" she added.
Penny continued watching Ember, thinking of all the possible scenarios when she woke up as Raven placed a small cup down beside Penny.
" All we can really do is wait and see what happens. Ember seems really tough and I'm sure she can pull through this " Raven was trying to keep Penny calm but she knew that it would be something hard to do simply because of how strongly Penny felt for her.
" I just want her back. I need her.." Penny said to herself, though this caught Ravens attention. " I know you do. And I wish I could do something to bring her back even quicker" Raven sighed as she looked down at her own cup and began to drink. " If I could fight that battle for her, then I would but it just feels like it's not..my..." Penny stumbled over her own words. When speaking of Ember, she seemed to always have trouble as of lately. Her feelings for Ember were..so confusing. She loved her as a friend and trusted her greatly but at the same time, this was different. This was different because deep within herself, if she were to lose Ember, Penny felt as though she would not be able to carry on the same way she had before. There would be a huge piece of her missing, a piece that she would never get back. Perhaps she was in love with Ember. But even if she was, she would never be able to confess that. Not now. Not after how badly Ember had taken the news before. This was something she would have to keep to herself for forever.
" I just want you back" tears began streaming down Penny's face as she stared over at her bestfriend. Raven smiled at the sight as it was heart warming to her. " You really do love her, don't you? " Raven suggested and Penny, in a shaken voice answered " Yes. More than anything. I will never let anything like this happen to her again..ever..." Penny continued to stare at Ember, wishing and hoping for the moment that Ember would awake, to be soon.
" That's not a bad thing but we know how Ember feels for right now" Raven's points out.
" I know. And I'm never going to put that on her.." Penny cried, her lip trembling from the overwhelming emotions swirling in her head. " Maybe someday " Penny smiled. " Maybe someday"
