Chapter 7

They found the Iris Parade to be as exciting as the Morpheus Parade the night before, but the specter of a ghostly pirate lingered in the back of their minds.

Back in Henry’s hotel room, they felt restless and in no mood for sex. They laid down on the bed with their clothes on and fell asleep. They woke just as the sun dipped below the western horizon.

“No parades downtown tonight, so the crowds won’t be quite as bad as they were last night,” Henry said. “But not by much.”

They ate a quick dinner at a restaurant in the Quarter and then headed for the cemetery. It was fully dark when they arrived, but unlike the night before, the place was almost deserted, except for John LeBeau. No one strolled the sidewalk and the street was void of vehicles.

“Where is everybody?” Henry called out as they approached. John took the cigarette out of his mouth.
