The Prince of Nine

I had no idea what attracted me, what force pulled me closer and closer. Alas, I knew, when that door opened, my entire youth had been lost. This world is not for the faint of heart, it is kill or be killed. I have had the displeasure of being on the wrong side of the coin. One wrong decision has led me down to this path, now I must see it through, or forever be damned into chastisement.

The Trial of Will (2)

The Resan reverberated around the room, the zooming sound buzzed, pinging off the white walls of this bland room. After the first student was crushed by the sheer amount of power he was subjected to it caused a large majority of the room to be cautious. A timer finally appeared above us counting down slowly. After a few more moments, more students begin to drop from being exposed to this Resan. It made my skin crawl.

The man that set forth this power now sat down on the other side of the wall, he was satisfied with his minor culling. Some students broke from the group that was gathered and moved closer to the wall, the closer they got, the slower they became. My knees buckled as sweat began to drip from my furrowed brows, it took a lot of energy to stay standing. It was my first time ever being exposed to this kind of power, and what an overwhelming force it was. It felt like your stomach was turning inside out, your skin was shifting and the very follicles of your hairs were being pulled.

The students who pressed on were also inevitably crushed, the moment they made contact with the wall they collapsed from the pressure that was being pushed down upon them. The sight of it makes me recoil again, as I had done for the very first challenger of the wall.

Veron; Cayus, Grok'on, Elisandre, and Gregin all stood at one side, they seemed unfazed by what was transpiring. In fact a large majority of our cabin all stood around that same area, they seemed to be withstanding the latent Resan in the room quite well. Me on the other hand, my knees are continuing to shake, the overwhelming intensity of this power -- Resan, it's profound. The number of students that fall at the wall begin to pile up, more hopelessly charge at the wall in an attempt to break through it. The proctor still remains seated, he's enjoying the sight of so many falling. The number above us with the timer keeps ticking, accompanying it now was another number, it was the amount of students still remaining in the challenge within this bizarrely gigantic room.

It kept dropping and dropping as more continue rushing. Thousands of hopefuls crushed within seconds, and when I say crushed, I truly mean they crumble down to the floor completely unconscious. Their bodies are then transported immediately in a flicker of light that encompasses the area that they occupy. It's like they vanish into thin air, and with that, the room continues to get smaller and smaller, almost ushering the remaining people to get closer to the wall.

No one made it through yet, the other side was completely empty bar the proctor. More continue, I look around and see the cabin's group still waiting around the corner of the enormous room.

1 hour left.

Cayus suddenly began to walk forward, he had a smirk on his face. He nonchalantly came up to the wall and touched it. He didn't crumble, he wasn't crushed, his hand just rest on the moat of pure energy that was pulsing out of the wall. I could see the proctor perk his head up, Cayus pushes into the wall, the resistance is mighty. Some sparks were flying out as he continued to force his way through, now his face showed signs of effort, biting his lip and scrunching his nose. But, he went through. He was the first. Cayus did it!

Veron spurn into action, Elisandre the elf joined him. Along with her came her entourage of elves. They all reach the wall, faced with the same challenge as Cayus who was now gloating and sitting on the other side of the wall next to the proctor. Vernon is the first to make contact with the wall, he was faced with the same force that had subjected Cayus to a painstaking fight to get through, but Vernon was stalwart. He simply pushed through with significantly less effort. Elisandre was next, as well as her cohort that followed her everywhere, she simply touched the wall, uttering a few words that I have no idea of the meanings of, and was through too.

One of her entourage was crushed the same as the others, many now stopped, baring witness to the people making it through the wall that had taken thousands of people out of contention for a place in the academy. So many dreams and aspirations crushed in a single moment of time and here they were, people in my cabin who simply walked through the wall that had seem unsurmountable for many.

The white room suddenly became darker, the white lifeless walls became red, crimson like blood. Along with that a sound rang throughout the room, blitzing the ears of all remaining hopefuls.

30 minutes left.

Many panicked at this sound, I see at least a hundred people swarming to get to the end, I'm still at the back, making my way slowly up to the wall but it took a lot of time and effort for me to even move in this room full of Resan. More perish, more and more, their bodies flail so violently when they are met with the full force of the Resan. While I merely struggle to even handle the dregs of it...

Grok'on now moves simply running directly at the wall while screaming all bloody hell being let loose from his diaphragm. He hits the wall and is sent back but comes back with even more force, he directly fazes through the wall on his second push, moving by the Resan with pure force. What a monster.

It was now or never, I had to move, I urge my body to keep going. My mind was not going to let me down now, I had to make it through.

Others continue their rush, one man is also going towards the wall, but he is not running, quite the opposite. He is walking at a leisurely pace at the wall. His hair was long, the curls were elegant, his hair as white as snow on a winter's morning. The hair touched his shoulders and the curls were reminiscent of a spool of yarn after being tangled. His face was an enigma for now, I could only see his back, yet I follow him towards the wall, my feet resisting constantly, my muscles contracting wildly to combat the Resan that wanted to see me on the floor.

More people are making it through to the other side? It was now or never, me and this man with curly white hair continue our stride towards the wall, although mine was definitely full of labor in comparison to him. We finally reach the wall.

He puts his hand on the wall and he just makes it through without any resistance, now it was my turn. Next to me another person touches the wall and effortlessly glides through it with a smile on their face. A woman with scarlet red hair had just made the wall look menial.

11 pass.

My hand reaches out for the wall.

I must make it through.
