Gregory's Ex

A few days had passed after I saw Gregory talking to Angel. I don't dare to ask my husband about it. He's already too sensitive about my feelings for him. I don't want him getting jealous of the grim reaper.

No matter how curious I was, I chose to keep my questions to myself. After all, we are going to Romania in a month. That's where the vampire council is located.

Since I'm a newborn vampire, I need to prove myself to the council. Every new vampire needs to show themselves according to Gregory. That's why I have to be there along with him.

There was a case before when a lot of newborns emerged. They end up being mindless creatures with a massive thirst for blood. The council was made to take control.

There's a vampire code that needs to be followed. The first rule is that the new vampire needs to be tested before allowing him or her to join the general population.

The second rule is vampires must never show themselves to their previous family or friends. They have to be invisible to normal humans. This rule has protected them for a long time.

The third rule is that they can only drink human blood in secret. It's not forbidden to kill humans but it has to be in moderation. Killing more than they should cause an alarm to humans.

Those are the most important rules from the vampire code. Although there are more, I don't need to go through all of them. It's all about drinking human blood anyway.

Gregory stopped doing that a long time ago. He mentioned that he stopped hunting humans the moment he felt the urge for a companion. That means it was 500 years ago.

I feel proud of Gregory when it comes to that. He may drink human blood on special occasions. But only from the blood bank and not directly from humans.

Ever since I woke up as a newborn vampire, I never encountered any humans. Gregory hid me in this abandoned cathedral immediately. I'm grateful for him because I don't have to deal with the smell of human blood.

It's already time to come out of the bedroom because it's already dark outside. But I hadn't seen Gregory when I woke up. Maybe he went somewhere. My vampire training is over.

I'm just practicing what I've learned these past few days. I have superhuman speed, strength, agility, and I never get tired anymore. That's how vampires can hunt almost anything.

I can run very fast now as if I'm the flash from the avengers. But the furthest place I've been was the woods where the Nuno's live. It seems that I can't find my way back to where I lived before becoming a vampire.

Wearing some fresh clothes, I get out of the room. Gregory wants me to wear a dress every day. It's not comfortable but I just wear them anyway. After all, I don't have my usual clothes around here.

As I approached the stairwell, I immediately noticed that we had a guest. Gregory is talking to a petite but very beautiful woman near the altar. That's our new living room now since we're living in a church.

"There she is, Mary, this is Victoria. Victoria, this is my wife Mary." Gregory introduced us.

"Hi! It's nice to meet you!" I extended one arm to give her a handshake.

"Oh, silly girl! Vampires don't do handshakes any more. Come here!" Victoria hugs me instead.

I don't feel comfortable hugging a stranger but since she initiated, I have to be polite. But I wonder what Victoria is doing in the cathedral. It seems that she's the only guest that we have.

"Victoria will stay with us for a few days," Gregory informed me.

I wanted to disagree but Greg looks close to her. So I just smiled and welcomed her to the cathedral. There are many rooms upstairs anyway. Maybe it will be just fine to have a guest for a few days.

"Great! I can use some female company around." I give Victoria a forced smile.

"Why, thank you!" She said and turned to Gregory. "Your wife is very kind as she is pretty." Victoria winked.

We talked for a few more minutes before bringing Victoria to her room. Gregory let me do it so I can get acquainted with her. It's another moment when I regret going back from the other side. If only I stayed there, I wouldn't have had to deal with his friends.

"Here we are! I hope you will like it here." I told her and I was about to leave but she stopped me.

"Mary, how much do you love Gregory?" Victoria asked.

I was caught off guard by her sudden question about how I feel for my husband. But I have to stay cool about it. After all, it's just a question. Maybe she's just curious about us since I saw her at our wedding.

"Enough to become a vampire I guess," I replied.

"Aren't you even curious about me?" Victoria asked.

"How about you?" I replied for the sake of the conversation.

Victoria stared at me enough to make me feel uncomfortable. If she's going to be a problem around here, I have to learn more about her. That way, I will be ready for what she's planning. But her pretty face is just so charming to even feel a rivalry towards her.

"I guess Gregory didn't tell you about me yet. I'm his ex-girlfriend before his quest for his companion." Victoria drops the bomb.

"Okay, so?" I asked which sounded like I just don't care.

"Are you going to be fine living on one roof with your husband's ex?" She asked.

"Sure, no problem!" I replied and smiled.

If she's trying to make me jealous, she got the wrong girl! But I think that there's more from this unexpected visit.

"You don't love Gregory at all!" Victoria concluded and crossed her arms with a pout.
