CHAPTER 54

The night had ended and the Chairman was forced to leave Dae Hyun to his decision but Dae Hyun knew he wouldn't take no for an answer so he had to keep his eyes and ears open in case he tried to harm Min Hye or threaten her to leave him.

Dae Hyun and Min Hye left to his house since they were now staying together to enable him offer her better protection.

"Are you drunk?" Dae Hyun asked Min Hye when he saw her dozing off in the car. Min Hye had drank a lot as she had been waiting for Dae Hyun impatiently which resulted to her drunken state. He knew she wasn't a heavy drinker so he wondered if it was because of Mi Ra whom she obviously despised.

"What? No.." Min Hye said in a low voice, she was obviously drunk and Dae Hyun watched her as she slept off. They arrived at his house and he had to carry her inside since she was drunk and sleeping. He laid her on the bed and helped her change into comfortable wears like a doting husband.

Dae Hyun smiled as he stared at Min Hye sleep, the old man was fucking wrong, he would never get tired of watching her, tasting her, feeling her and being with her. He could never get used to it, he felt more attracted and drawn to her like a magnet as each day passed so it would be the biggest mistake he would ever make if he accepted the Chairman's offer instead, he'd acquire the company in his own way which was long and hard, he'd go through that for her, he'd go through the long and hard way to not lose her.

The ray of sunlight peeked through the thick curtains into Dae Hyun's room but they were both still fast asleep until he heard the ringer buzz. He didn't want to get up to check on whoever it was that disturbed his sleep but the buzzing continued nonstop and he wondered who it was at that time of the morning which was weird because he never had any visitors, not even his neighbors visited him once or invited him for anything since he had avoided them like the plague.

He sprang up from the bed with a frown etched on his face, careful not to wake Min Hye as he was furious at whoever disturbed his time sleeping with Min Hye and he if he had the chance, he'd skin the person alive, literally. He picked up his glasses and placed it on before dashing out to check who it was. He first checked the cam on the door and he wasn't surprised by his visitors, 'they must have found it by now' he thought inwardly.

The frown disappeared on his face to be replaced by a poker face as he opened the door to be greeted by two policemen and he recognized them as the officers that investigated him on Chan Yeol's death. They brought their police badge to view before saying,

"We are the police and we're here to ask you questions on the death of Shin So Ra." Inspector Han said and Dae Hyun squinted his eyes feigning obliviousness to the reason they were there.

"So Ra?" He said as his brows knitted together in confusion.

"Yes, she died on the night of the event your company held." Inspector Oh said, refreshing his memory but he didn't need anyone to explain to him, he vividly remembered what happened.

"I know but wasn't the case officially stated as a suicide?" Dae Hyun asked as they had announced on the news that she committed suicide but her reasons weren't revealed to the public as it was termed confidential to avoid unnecessary rumours from being spread but that didn't stop false rumours on her suicide to circulate.

"Her parents demanded more investigation." The officers said. Her parents were rich and they knew her too well to know that she was scared of heights and she got easily scared by frivolous things so it was hard for them to believe that she would jump off a two hundred storeyed building and commit suicide.

"I see but why am I involved in your investigation?" He asked, there was no hint of fear in his voice, he feared no one because he felt like a god and they all feared him.

"That's why we're here." The officers said but Dae Hyun wasn't willing to let them in, they obviously had no sort of strong evidence against him and he knew the only reason they were there was because of the suicide note which stated that she was madly in love with him and he was the reason she committed suicide.

"Do you have a warrant for questioning, if you don't I won't answer any questions." He said with a firm voice and with the way they exchanged glances, he knew they didn't get a questioning warrant.

"If you refuse to cooperate, I guess it's safe to assume that you have something to hide." Officer Han said, trying to make him scared enough to cooperate but there was not a hint of fear in the man's eyes as he stared at them with emotionless grey eyes.

"You're right, I have nothing to hide, so come in." He said politely as he widened the door and motioned for them to go in. They sat at the living room and Dae Hyun offered refreshments but they refused.

"According to evidence we found on the crime scene, So Ra left a suicide note saying she was in love with you." Officer Oh said without wasting any time as soon as they were seated.

"A lot of women are in love with me, are you trying to blame me for her suicide?" Dae Hyun asked.

"No, but I want to know if you were in any relationship with her before you got engaged?" The officer questioned and Dae Hyun's eyes narrowed.

"No, I didn't have any sort of romantic feelings or relationship with her, she was too clingy." Dae Hyun said with a serious expression as he adjusted his glasses.

"Her parents told us she was incredibly afraid of height so the chances of her jumping off the roof are as low as three percent." Officer Han chipped in as he maintained eye contact with Dae Hyun but he didn't tear his gaze away and he maintained it till the officer averted his gaze.

"Three percent isn't zero percent and we don't realise just how strong the human desires and emotions can drive someone to do something so crazy ." Dae Hyun replied thoughtfully.

"So she was madly in love with you to the extent she couldn't bear to see you with someone else and it drove her to commit suicide, right?" The officer questioned and Dae Hyun was already getting bored with their dumb questions.

"Are you trying to frame me for murder?" Dae Hyun asked as he scoffed at their audacity.

"No, we're just stating a fact."

"What fact is that?" Dae Hyun questioned confidently.

"we found a suicide note on the roof saying she killed herself because she couldn't bear to see you getting married to someone else." The officer paused as he tried to read Dae Hyun's face but he couldn't read the enigmatic man. "And a staff told us you arranged the rooftop for your engagement with a woman so I'm wondering if you saw her commit suicide?" The officer asked.

"No, she must have done it after we left the rooftop." Dae Hyun said with confidence but that didn't stop Inspector Han from suspecting him as he thought that every victim from his company had been connected to him, while others thought it was merely a coincidence with no hard evidence to suspect Dae Hyun, he thought it was connected and he suspected him as the serial killer, he had no evidence yet but he trusted his instincts.

"The autopsy confirmed that she had been dead for almost an hour before she was found but...The body was found five to ten minutes after you both arrived according to the witnesses, so where were the both of you after you proposed." The officer queried awaiting his reply.

"We were fucking." He replied with a serious expression and the officers exchanged puzzled looks between themselves.
