Chapter 05// Vortex I

Adventurer's Guild

A pristine full of hope and magnanimity stood tall in the outskirts of the city.

The idea of placing such a building on the outskirts was to mange the inflow of potential adventurers coming in & out of the building. Bigger space for a bigger crowd.

Ideally, one would enter the building and be welcomed with a whiff of pure f*cking testosterone- all filled with men with swords... the occasional woman too, menacing looks and laughter could be heard throughout the Guild hall; stuff really made you think twice about joining. All of it was psychological of course, to weed out the herd.

Once entered, you'd head to the reception and fill out the necessary paperwork and wait for testing.

Young Klaus happened to fill out the paperwork and was waiting by the Quest board. Reading all the potential job opportunities that laid for him.

"Klaus Von holden?" an attendant came up to him with his information, he turn around with a smile.

The attendant held her breath, cheeks blushed a little. Klaus had blonde hair and sharp blue eyes, sparkling against the sunlight in the room. One could easily fall in deep. He had an tanned complexion, from training and a flashing smile. One would struggle to resist his natural good looks.

"Yep, that's me."

"My name is Avon, I'm the one who's going to be taking you to the testing room to get your readings." Avon smiled. She had to reorganize her thoughts before leading Klaus to the testing room.

"Once inside, all you have to do is place you hand on the red ruby in the middle of the room, there are testers on the other side analyzing your readings. Nothing to worry about okay? You're safe with me" The attendant winked before she opened the twin doors.

--

White.

Pure white tiles covered the room, it felt weird of course- there in the middle of the room a red stone embedded on a trunk of a tree, as if a tree had been chopped down and the room was built around it. With nothing else in the room, Klaus approached the trunk and placed his right hand on top of the ruby embedded inside.

Through the gaps of his fingers, a red light could be seen.

The red light continued shining, pulsating energy through the trunk and being analysed in the other room.

--

"Wow" Chief Head engineer Hans looked at the readings. "He's got Class S potential... Another Schism candidate"

"I mean that's to be expected, being an off-branch of the Stormholden line. Actually, isn't he one of two candidates today for the Schism?" 2nd Engineer Drax peered at the readings.

Young Klaus could be seen in the other room just standing, looking perplexed from the red energy throughout his body.

"Second time? Who's the first?" The attendant Avon, who led Klaus into the testing area came into the room, curious of the Schism Candidate List.

"Ah, now that I about it, it was an orphan- not sure of his name, but Wrexler wanted him" Drax said, deep in thought.

"My God, another crow? They keep dropping dead every time you look- How old was he this time??"

"8...he was 8 years old" Hans interrupted. Silence filled the room, everyone contemplating what the poor orphan must be going through when faced with the Schism.

--

Klaus looked around...Shady. That was his first thoughts, after he had been in the White room being tested, he was led outside of the building into the forest, where Avon had stopped in front of a particular tree. Nothing worth noting, however, when Avon placed her hand on the tree itself; mana could be felt. An enchantment circle appeared underneath their feet and they both disappeared under a flash of light.

This was all under the pretense of further assessment.

Klaus could only hope he had good enough potential to make his mother proud. Whatever it takes...
