Chapter(Hundred) Eighty nine: Healing

Despite the countenance Becca aimed to provide, a question hung at the bare tip of her tongue. With everything she witnessed tonight, she wouldn't ask but then again, she didn't have to. The question glinted in her eyes like sun rays on steel. Palpable. 

" I saw her today. My mother." Leo answered her question before she even asked. " The opera singer." He sucked in a breath before saying, " I wasn't ready to see her, not now. Not after everything that has happened." Maybe not ever.

Becca's heart squeezed, a rueful expression contorting her face. " Leo, I am so sorry. I didn't know…" The words died in her throat.

" It wasn't your fault. There was no way for either of us to have known." 

But she still held herself culpable. If she hadn't persuaded Leo into accompanying her to the opera, none of this would have happened. Becca still saw the hurt in his eyes.
