Jonathan kept his curious gaze on Vincent while Natalia watched him suspiciously. She couldn’t help but wonder about his strength that stopped a fast-moving car just with his hand. More surprisingly, he didn't even have a scratch, but the car got a huge dent.
“Did you get hurt?” Jonathan’s question drew their attention.
Natalia took a look at Jonathan, then stared at Vincent in the rearview mirror, just to meet his deep black eyes. She squinted at him inquisitively. She also had the same question in her mind.
Vincent, on the other hand, was somewhat uneasy under their curious gaze. What he did today was something that no human could do.
He turned his gaze to the road, thinking about how to reply.
"Yes... my hand hurts,” he said after some time. "But there is nothing to worry about. It will be okay.”
“Are you sure?” Natalia inquired, her tone skeptical. "Let me drive if it's painful."
“It’s okay. I am fine,” he said flippantly.
“You are so strong, like a superman…” Jonathan exclaimed, grinning widely. His eyes were gleaming with excitement.
"I've seen you run so quickly. But I couldn’t see you block the car because of my mummy. I wish I could watch that...”
Jonathan continued to talk with enthusiasm. The fear in his mind for Vincent was obliterated. He was confident that this powerful man would protect him from any danger, including the monster.
Vincent was astonished to see how chatty this boy was. So far, he thought Jonathan seldom spoke. However, his misunderstanding was dispelled.
No one spoke except Jonathan. While Vincent concentrated on driving, Natalia continued to look out the window at the scenery.
The sun had already set on the horizon by the time they arrived home.
Olivia was taken aback when she saw him coming with Natalia and Jonathan. She didn’t know how many times she had asked Margarette about him, but it turned out that he went to the amusement park.
She approached them and asked, “Natalia, you take Vincent with you!”
Before Natalia could respond, Jonathan stated excitedly, “It was so much fun today. Vincent stopped a car with his hand and saved us… like a superhero.”
“Really?” Olivia exclaimed, her eyes glittering with enthusiasm. “Tell me everything from the beginning.”
She dragged Jonathan over to the couch and made him sit as she took the seat next to him.
“How did he save you?”
Then Jonathan started narrating everything.
Natalia rolled her eyes and walked up to her room. Vincent made his way to his room as well, but paused when he heard Olivia say, "Vincent, wait a minute..."
He turned to her and saw her walking towards him.
“I hope you remember we are going to a party.”
“I do…”
“Well then, I will go get ready. See you in half an hour.” She hurried to her room with a gleeful smile on her face.
Olivia freshened up fast and started getting ready. She wanted to be prettier and hotter than ever to bewitch Vincent. She believed that he wouldn’t take his eyes off her.
Olivia rolled her chestnut hair in bouncy curls and applied a light coral eyeshadow that matched her coral satin one-shoulder dress. Then she highlighted her eyes with eyeliner and mascara. She put berry red lipsticks.
Finally, she looked at the mirror and couldn’t help but smile. She would undoubtedly attract everyone's attention, including Vincent's. Her lips curled up in anticipation.
“Let’s slay, baby,” she muttered and blew a kiss at her reflection.
She wrapped herself in a black overcoat, grabbed her beaded purse that matched her dress, and went out. Vincent was sitting on the sofa in the living room, talking with Oscar.
With his black jeans and black shirt, he looked hot and handsome as always. His sleeves were rolled up to his elbow, flaunting his strong forearms. A few locks of his curly hair that fell on his forehead added to his charm.
Olivia wondered how someone could look so handsome in such a simple outfit. She successfully caught their attention as she descended the stairs.
Vincent got up and stepped out after saying goodbye to Oscar, which made Olivia a little disappointed. She expected him to keep staring at her, but he threw only a sidelong glance at her before leaving.
“Olivia, dear…” Oscar approached her. “I know you're smart and capable of looking after yourself, but I still want you to be cautious. Come home on time. Enjoy…” He drew her into a big bear hug.
“Dad, don’t worry. I'll get home safely in time. Love you.” She placed a kiss on his cheek and hurried out.
The red Mercedes Benz AMG was waiting for her outside the house. She opened the door and sat in the passenger seat, offering a charming smile to the person behind the wheel.
Vincent frowned at her and asked, “Shouldn’t you be sitting in the back seat?”
"Why do I have to sit at the back?" She responded with a question while fastening her seatbelt. “You are not my driver. You are my savior, my protector. And I would like to be your friend.”
She stretched her hand towards him.
Vincent looked at her hand briefly and then gazed upon her.
"No friendship can exist between the boss and her bodyguard.”
He started the engine as soon as he finished speaking.
His cold words made her distressed. The smile on her face also faded away. It was the second time she offered him her hand, but he didn't take it. She was disappointed and embarrassed simultaneously.
She retracted her hand as she peered outwards. All of her efforts to appear attractive seemed to be in vain. He didn’t take any interest in her. If another man had been in his place, he would have jumped at the chance to hug and kiss her.
She sulked, her dissatisfaction growing. However, a sly smirk crept across her lips as a mischievous thought crossed her mind.
All her classmates would be present at the party. A lot of guys used to have a crush on her. She would choose one of them and dance with him.
‘Let’s see how long you will remain unaffected,’ she muttered in her mind.
