Chapter 1: Stay On Your Toes

Alexa's P.O.V.

Today is my eighteenth birthday and I finally get to shift, which I think is a downfall to us, but they say it gives our bodies time to get ready for the shift. From the time we turned ten we were put into training to get strong, and so we would make it through the shift, not everyone did.

I had just got home from my run and was in my room getting ready when my mom came to the door. "Good morning sweetie. How was your run this morning?" I turned and glanced at her. " It was fine, can't wait to run in wolf form." "Now sweetie, remember come home right after school, so we can get over to Yellowstone before nightfall if you don't want to shift for the first time in the city."

My mom left and I got my shower then got dressed. I grabbed my helmet, my phone and went downstairs. I sat at the kitchen table and my mom brought me my food and I ate then thanked her and said bye. I got on my motorcycle and put my helmet on and went to school. When I got to school my friend Lily was waiting for me with some other members from the pack. They all noticed me as soon as I pulled up. I turned off my bike and pulled off my helmet. Lily walked over to me. "Hey Alexa, why do you still wear that helmet, not like you need it."

I growled low enough so only she could hear. "Lily you know I only do to look more human." She smiled at me. "I know just messing with you. Apparently fixing to shift gives you mood swings too." I playfully punched her arm then we both walked over to the group.

The others bowed their heads in respect. "Guys you know I am not alpha yet?" In unison, they all replied "Yup" Elijah replied, "Yeah but with you fixing to shift you have a lot more power, and dominance coming off of you." "You think it's a lot now, wait till I do shift, you will be on your knees." With that the whole group laughed.

The bell rang and we walked to our lockers. I put my helmet in my locker and grabbed my books for my first two classes. I was walking to my class when I accidentally bumped into someone and dropped my books. I growled lowly then looked to see who bumped into me, and low and behold it was Sebastian.

I picked up my books then stood to my full height and stared Sebastian in the eye. "You should really watch where you are going." He smiled, "Oh come on babe anyone who saw that would know that it was your fault almost like you just wanted to touch me." I held back my urge to growl at him and just walked away. I don't know why but I always got bad vibes from him.

I got to class just before the bell and sat down. I didn't have many pack members in my classes, because most Lycans took just your normal classes just to get by but I wanted to be different. I am taking all honor classes and I have had all A's throughout school.

I know most Lycans could be very excellent in school, but they don't want to draw attention to themselves. I am not really drawing much attention from the student body, but manly just from the teachers. I was always very kind, likable and managed to never get into any kind of trouble.

My first class is Calculus, math isn't my favorite subject, but I am pretty good at it. The class went by pretty fast today then I was on to my next which is my favorite history. I sit down in the front of the room. On the board is the word Lycan.

I looked around the class worried that maybe someone figured me or someone in my pack out to see what our reaction would be. I raised my hand and Mrs. Grey called on me. "Yes Mrs. Grey what are we learning about today?" "Well today we are going to have a discussion about the history of how Lycans were made and how dangerous they are." I just nodded my head and pulled out my notebook.

The class went by fine especially since I didn't say much. I was walking to my locker to put my books up, so I could go to lunch. I put my books up then walked to the lunch room. I got my tray then went to my table and waited for my friends to get here.

After a few seconds they came in and got their food, came and sat down. We talked about how our day has gone so far. I look at them, "Hey guys, have any of your classes talked about lycans this morning?" Everyone shook their head except for Elijah. I looked at him, "Elijah what happened?" "My history class first block talked about them today."

I talk slightly using my alpha tone. "Okay I need y'all to be very careful today and keep your senses open all day. The school is talking about Lycans and I'm just being cautious." In unison, they all replied "Certainly"

"Okay guys y'all need to play it cool and try, and see if anyone is talking about Lycans." They all nodded their heads, and we got up and went to our next classes. The rest of the day went fine. I found out that all the history classes talked about Lycans today.

The bell to end the day rang and I went to my locker to get my helmet. When I got home my mom and dad had already packed everything for this weekend. "Hey dad who is all going?" He looked at me. "Well you, me, your mom, Beta Julian, his wife Penelope and their son Eli. Tonight will be yours and Eli's first shift." I really liked that me and Eli had the same birthday. We would always celebrate together.

We got in the car and headed for Yellowstone. I slept most of the way since I knew that I was going to be up most the night and the next day. When we arrived my mom woke me up. We got there first and the Hall family wasn't here yet, so I took that time to change into a red summer dress with nothing underneath.

After about 10 minutes the Hall family arrived. When Eli stepped out of the car I couldn't help but stare a little. He was shirtless and only had on a pair of gym shorts. "Hey Eli you ready for this." He gave me a slight smile. "As much as I can be."
