Fortune

The next day at school was a torturous experience for Maisie. She arrived at school early to find Isolde and have a pleasant conversation with her, but her friend had snubbed her. Isolde pretended not to have seen her.

Isolde proceeded with her activity as if everything was fine.

It was a new experience for Maisie to see her friend ignore her. She couldn't take it anymore and needed to have a conversation with her to prevent their friendship from drifting apart.

Last night, she removed Mr. Leif from her phone and life and instructed herself not to think of him otherwise she would find herself in a situation she couldn't handle.

The presence of that man triggered dangerous situations, so it was appropriate for her to leave and forget him entirely.

"Maisie Tuffin" Miss Sylvia called her out in the classroom.

For some time now, the teacher had been aware of her student's absent-mindedness in the classroom and was interested in finding out why.

Maisie blinked, then turned her gaze towards the teacher and all the students who were observing her.

"Are you alright?" Sylvia's eyes narrowed.

Maisie smiled, "I am. I'm good" She commented.

"Okay. Let's proceed with the class activity, shall we?" She inquired with a smile, while Maisie nodded.

Soon after, they reverted to their previous course of listening to the teacher explain the diagrams on the board.

This time, Maisie made sure not to zone out as she didn't want to be called out by Miss Sylvia again.

Before the class concluded, the teacher requested that the students hand in their notes to the class captain for recording.

Miss Sylvia left, while the students wrapped up their books and started hurrying to Isolde to submit their notes.

Maisie was patient as she waited for them to decrease in number before heading to Isolde's seat to avoid being pushed around by the students.

After stacking her books on top of the other books, Maisie leaned closer to her friend who was writing something on her note.

"Let's meet at the rooftop"

Isolde looked up, her eyebrows furrowing. "Why should I meet with you?" She sharply inquired, with her eyebrows raised.

"I have something to tell you. It's important. Please?" Maisie pleaded.

Isolde hadn't forgotten what had transpired at the gym. She was still angry at Maisie, but she was trying to refrain from fighting in school because she was conscious of the consequences.

She was uncertain if she could forgive Maisie for what she had done, especially since she had stolen her man, caused disgrace at the gym, and caused her to not receive payment. A mere apology wouldn't work, Isolde reasoned.

"I'll give you just ten minutes" She responded, and then rose from her seat.

"Thank you" Maisie whispered.

While watching her friend lift the tons of books with her hands, Maisie offered to help, but Isolde declined with a stern gaze right away.

Maisie stood patiently on the rooftop at lunchtime, anticipating Isolde to fulfill their promise by coming. Her blazer was swaying in the windy air as she folded her arm across her chest and gazed at the horizon with her blue eyes.

"Maisie"

Maisie heard a call from behind, she turned to see Isolde standing distant with her hands on her hips.

"You came" Maisie noted, a smile tickling the corner of her lips.

Isolde approached her, "I did, and you have eight minutes left," She said.

Maisie examined Isolde's appearance, and it was evident that she was still angry. Her eyebrows had gathered in a tight knot and her arms were folded across her chest.

As Isolde looked back at Maisie, her lips twisted to the side, anticipating the apology she would make.

Maisie placed her hands to the side, and she exhaled heavily.

"I know I did wrong and I am sorry Isolde. I cannot bear the fact that you're mad at me. we've been best friends with Danisa for quite some time now and I don't want to put our friendship to an end. I apologize for my behavior and I promise to make things right"

She spoke without delay, realizing that time wasn't waiting for her.

Maisie stepped forward, cautiously, "Give me another chance, I promise not to hurt you again"

"How do you plan to make things right?" Isolde inquired, as that was the only thing she held onto.

"I'd never see him again, or text, or even look at him. I promise you. Last time was only a mistake" Maisie responded with a hopeful expression towards Isolde, whose gaze was still hard.

"And what shall I do if you break your promise?"

"You can punish me all you want" Maisie responded hastily.

Isolde remained silent as she observed the anxious look on her friend's face. Isolde didn't intend it, but the genuine look Maisie gave her convinced her that she wasn't going to meet the man again or have any kind of connection with him.

Isolde didn't see any reason to not let this go.

"Okay," She spoke at last.

Maisie beamed, "Have you forgiven me? Are we friends now?" she hastily inquired.

"Yes, we are. C'mon girl, hug me" Isolde laughed.

Maisie quickly embraced Isolde and tightened her arms around her.

The latter did the same while running her fingers through Maisie's hair. "I'm sorry about that day at the gym. I shouldn't have hurt you"

"It's fine. It didn't hurt" Maisie denied. Her lips widened into a big smile. Isolde always made her feel protective when they hugged, and Maisie was happy to have her friend back.

Maisie reflected inwardly that she had resolved everything. She couldn't be happier.

They both pulled away from the hug after a while. Maisie intertwined her hands before her, as she felt Isolde wiping the tear that had slipped from the corner of her eyes, she chuckled, "Thanks"

"You're welcome" Isolde smiled at her, and then added, "We should head back, lunchtime is over"

"Yeah"

As they turned, Danisa came into their view and appeared angry that she hadn't been included in their friendship hug.

"Hey Isolde, you offended me, you know right? Gosh, I've never felt my ears ring loudly in my entire life" She mused, while darting a glare at the girl.

"I am sorry about that. I never should have slapped you"

"Yeah, you never should have" Danisa eyed her, "By the way, this is all your fault, who said you shouldn't have the courage to face Mr. Leif, you took it out on Maisie when she was doing only good"

"I'll be brave from now on, and I apologize for what I did to you two" Isolde spoke.

"That's better" Danisa yearned like a mother who was expecting a good word from her child.

Since the issue was cleared up, Isolde said, "I don't think I'll go home with you guys today, I have some work to do in school"

Danisa spoke up also, "I have to be at the bookstore today... Sigh...Maisie, you'll have to go alone"

Maisie shrugged, "That's fine"

The trio continued to discuss as they returned to the class, "I wonder why Xav and Liam didn't come to school"

"What's there to worry about Liam, he is a habitual absentee," Danisa said and they all laughed.

The school closed for the day and the high school students exited the school gates, apparently ecstatic to have left the boring place they had been confined to for the past twelve hours. Maisie was one of the students strolling down the highway. She held onto her backpack firmly as she walked along the streets. Today was uninteresting because her friends were not with her.

But she soon encountered someone willing to change her life forever.

Her blue eyes gazed at an old woman on the road. The woman was attempting to cross the road.

Each time she tried to run across the road, a car whooshed past her and she would return to the roadside. She was like a chicken trying to escape its doom.

Maisie saw that no one was willing to help her so she approached the woman. "Ma'am are you going to cross the road?" she politely inquired.

Heidi turned to the side to see a young lady with wavy brunette hair and blue eyes.

OMG, no one had ever attracted her like this young lady here, she just was too gorgeous, Heidi had to remove her sunglasses to view the girl properly.

The woman was a fashionista, Maisie noticed.

Heidi was wearing a long skirt and a blazer, she had a satin scarf wrapped around her head and was wearing a sunglass. She held a Louis Vuitton bag and her shoes were one to die for. Even in her old age, she was stunning.

"Yes dear" Heidi responded.

"I'll help you" Maisie offered.

And then, she held the woman's hand and turned towards the road while looking left and right.

When she was certain it was time to cross, she walked over the road with the elderly woman.

They got to the other side, and Maisie let go of the woman's hand, "I should hail a cab for you" She said with a smile.

"Ah no. My driver has arrived" Heidi told the young girl.

Maisie looked behind her to see a red car pulling over. "Alright, ma'am. I shall leave now"

"Wait" Heidi stopped Maisie from leaping over to the other side of the road, she hurriedly rummaged through her purse and took hold of a black-looking card.

"Is everything okay?" Maisie approached her with a frown on her face, as she wondered why the woman had held her back.

"Here, call me if you need anything" She inserted the card into the girl's hand.

Before Maisie could protest, Heidi hurriedly left into the car and asked the driver to speed up at once. "I shall have you fired Tyler" Her voice thundered in the vehicle.

Maisie watched the car disappear from her sight and her gaze returned to the black card, she sighed before tossing it into her bag carelessly.

She was certain she wasn't going to be needing anyone's help, her life was perfect the way it was.
