Chapter77

#Chapter77

Epilogue01

The boy in front of me smiled, revealing an almost straight row of white teeth.

Dark horn-rimmed spectacles sat on the bridge of his nose, in danger of sliding down the narrow slope of it, but he barely seemed to notice. His smile grew wider.

Eyes of honey-roasted beans magnified behind the thick lenses, sparkling with life. I knew this boy, the one before me, but he looked little as I remembered. His face had thinned out, the last traces of puppy dog fat traded in for the leanness that now stencilled his cheeks. He looked happier. He looked as though he was happier with himself; he seemed less awkward in his own skin.

I blinked. The boy mimicked. My smile grew a little bit, the glasses sliding a little further down my nose. The boy in the mirror reflected my every move.

Prodding the glasses back up with the tip of my finger, I gently bobbed my tongue out at him. Mirror Oz did the same.
