Benjamin paused, savoring the moment as Valerie's composure crumbled. Her eyes welled with tears, her heart rising and falling in quick successions.
Delighted by her distress, he continued, his voice laced with malice. "What I didn't understand, though, was how my spies on the Wright estate vanished into thin air."
His gaze narrowed, replaying the events. "Clara, your father's wife, couldn't uncover the truth. And your father...ha! He's clueless, only good for running a company, oblivious to the world around him."
Benjamin's thoughts spilled out loud, his curiosity piqued. "Could it have been Rebecca? Was she the mastermind behind their disappearance?"
He shook his head, dismissing the idea. "No, she left the Wright estate after her husband died, so she wouldn't have known about the spies… So, tell me, Valerie, who do you think is protecting the Wright family from the shadows? If you tell me, I'll let your daughter live."
