PREFACE: THE WRITER’S INTERLUDE
On the day, this tale reached its peak, the writer sat in an empty cold classroom. Filled simultaneously with broken and brand-new desks and chairs. The writer took up their multi-coloured pen decorated with clickable inks and began to play the role of judge, jury and executioner whenever the pen touched the notebook. With a click! Click! Click! They decided which colour to use first.
The name 'Hadiza' was written in blue, 'David' in red, 'Junior' in green, and 'Angel' in purple. The writer kept on cancelling and rewriting Angel's name before writing it one last time and adding the final point of view, 'The Writer' in black ink. Then the writer skipped a page and clicked through all the inks before returning to black.
"You all made mistakes that day", the writer began. "It happened. It wasn't a dream or your overactive imagination. You need to remember and accept it."
The writer got up. Closed the thick spiral-bound notebook and put down the pen. The cover of that notebook had the words 'Gold Digger Society' in the space allotted for the owner to write their name.
The writer then abandoned the book on the table. It was there for days and nights until one day someone entered the empty classroom and the wind the person brought in, opened the book.
The pages scattered back and forth before the person finally sat down.
The book had been upside down. To the person's surprise, the notebook was filled with personalised accounts of the key members of the Gold Digger Society. Once the reader was done flipping through it, they returned to the first page. It had been folded and the words: A tale of three witnesses, were boldly written on both sides of the folded paper. Beside it in blue ink was what the writer wrote to, and about Hadiza.
