Chapter 2

It's been a month since I enrolled in the Tokyo Metropolitan Advanced Nurturing School. Everyone was enjoying their time. There is no limit to what students can do or not other than a certain topic like violence and sexual relationship is extremely prohibited obviously and students who broke these rules were immediately expelled from the school.

Even in the classroom teachers didn't stop students who arrived late. They didn't even remarks about the students who talked during classes or use cellphones. Not that I complaining, I also sometimes fall asleep during classes. But I wonder long this going to last.

---

Today is May 1st and everyone was waiting for their points to be deposit into their accounts but that didn't happen. Everyone was worried about why they didn't receive points for this month. When the students asked the teacher about she smirked which looked ominous.

"Are you guys are that stupid," Chiyabashira-sensei said. Everyone was taken aback by this sudden statement. She looks around the classroom before continues.

"A total of ninety-eight absences and late arrivals. Three hundred ninety-one incidences of talking or using a cell phone in class. This school measures its students' true abilities. This time you are worth nothing, so you will get nothing," Chiyabashira-sensei said in a monotone voice. My suspicion about this is finally confirmed. According to sensei, the class overall performance is reflected in our monthly points, as a result, we lost all 100,000 of our points.

"Nobody told us about this before," said one of the students.

"You not a kid anymore. Use your common sense. If you simply acted properly then you wouldn't have lost your points," Chiyabashira-sensei shot that argument down. After that sensei take out a chart and spread it over the blackboard. On that chart, Class A to Class D was listed.

Class A - 940

Class B - 650

Class C - 490

Class D - 0

"As you can see every class were scored using the same rule and despite that, they didn't lose that many points. Did you now understand why all were placed in Class D? In this school, students are sorted by their level of excellence. The superior students have sorted into Class A and the defective students in Class D. This is the result of you being defective," Chiyabashira-sensei voice echoed throughout the classroom.

Everybody was shocked by this revelation especially Horikita. Her face becomes stiffened.

"Is there any way to regain our lost points, Sensei," Hirata asks Sensei. Even in this situation he taking initiative for his classmates. Truly admirable.

"Yes, you will get many opportunities to earns points and your first one is the upcoming midterm exam. But I don't think it's possible for this class," Sensei took out another chart and spread it out on the blackboard. It's our mock test result which we had a few days ago.

Horikita turned her face towards me, clearly surprised to see my name on top of the list with a perfect hundred marks. Kouenji and a student named Yukimura tied for second place and then Horikita who was in third place.

"I can see that we had a few idiots in the class. If this was a real test those who received a failing mark would be expelled from the school," Chiyabashira-sensei said that with glare. Everyone becomes silent as Sensei words registered into their brain. I can't tell if she is happy or angered about this situation.

---

After the homeroom was over, the atmosphere of the class feels heavy. Everyone was uneasy and frustrated about their current situation. They started to blame each other. It was quite chaotic. The class was at the brink of collapse. But Hirata and Kushida can keep everyone together. During the lunch break, Hirata approaches us.

"Horikita-san and Ayanokouji-Kun, We going to discuss how we can increase our points. Can you join us?" Hirata said.

"I refused," Horikita said that without giving it a second thought. Now Hirata looked towards me.

"I'm sorry but I'm not good at interacting with people, so no," I also refused him. Indeed, I'm not good at socialising but there is another reason for it. I'm sure after seeing my perfect score, other students will have all sorts of questions that I want to avoid.

"I see. I'm sorry. If you change your mind, I'd love for you to join us," Hirata apologised and returned to his group. Some of the girls from the Hirata group giving us a disapproving look, clearly they are not happy that we refused to participate in Hirata's group discussion.

---

After returning to my room I checked out my phone which was buzzing for a while. There was various message in class's chat group. They are mostly talking about me and Horikita. I didn't even bother to read the messages.

Getting a perfect score on the test was not a good idea. But how I'm supposed to know that getting a perfect score would turn out to be such a big deal. This is my first time attending any type of school. In white room getting a perfect score means nothing.

"I have quickly deal with this problem before it's get out of the hands," I thought.

---

Just like that, a week passed. Ever since Chiyabashira-sensei's warning, fewer people have arrived late or talked in class. Hirata and Kushida are helping academically weak students through group study sessions. They making good progress. If this goes on, we can gain some points.

"Are you free during lunch break, Ayanokouji-Kun? Want to eat together," Horikita suddenly invite me to have lunch with her. I couldn't help but be suspicious of her.

Since I had no other plans I decided to accept her offer. When we were leaving for the cafeteria I saw some of my classmates whispering while pointing at us. I ignored them for now and follow Horikita.

---

I decided to order the most expensive meal since Horikita said she will pay for the meals. At first, I declined her but she insists, so I let her do what she wants.

After we finished our meals Horikita stop me from getting off the table.

"I want you to listen to me for a second," Horikita said. I'm curious to know what she wants to talk about so sit down on my chair.

"In other to reach Class A, everyone needs to get good test scores. It's good that Hirata-Kun had already taken action towards this end. However, there are still few students who didn't join Hirata's study group," Horikita said.

"Are you talking about Sudou-Kun, Ike-Kun and Yamauchi-Kun," I said. They didn't particularly hate Hirata. They are just jealous of Hirata's popularity.

"Yes, if they're left alone, they will bring down the whole class. So I want you to make sure that they at least pass the test." Horikita said. So this is her real motive.

"Look, if you want to aim for Class A I won't stop you but don't involve me. Furthermore ever since my score was released, they started to keep their distance from me. So I doubt that they will listen to me," I explained my reasons. Hopefully, she'll understand.

"Yeah, hopefully," I thought.

"You ate the food I brought, right? And don't forget that I haven't forgiven you for conspiring with Kushida," Horikita said as she narrowed her eyes. She still hold grudge against me for that.

"She going out of her way to ask my help, I guess, I should help her a little bit," I thought.

"Okay, I help you gather them but I won't tutor them, that's too much trouble for me. You have to tutor them by yourself," I firmly stated that I only help as long as it's didn't interfered with my normal life.

"Okay, I understand. I guess I was hoping too much from you. Here, this my contact info. Call me when you gather them all," She gives me a piece of paper and walks away.

"Did she just insult me?" I thought.

Now how I'm going to convince Sudou and others.
