The Game of Undeath

Death, a frightening concept to any mortal who has lived a long enough life. From those young to still not comprehend the nature of death, to those old enough who have been waiting for its inevitable embrace, death is a constant in species with finite lives. What the mortals didn’t know was that Death was alive. A concept, thought to be the end of all life, was actually one that has a life of its own, and it has grown bored for the first time in millennia of doing their job every single day without stopping in keeping the cycle of reincarnation busy. Said boredom gave them an idea to throw a still alive mortal into a different dimension… As a mortal that does not need to fear the concept of Death’s domain. They also gave said mortal a guide in the form of the mortal’s favorite hobby, gaming. With Death at his back (metaphorically of course), Sev, the mortal who Death has picked, must now navigate a world full of madness and insane habitats because there was no way a normal God actually shaped the world he was transmigrated to. Seriously, who in their right minds grabbed all the races ever conceived and placed them into a singular world? Hell, there was even steampunk, magitech, even some 21st century technology bullshit here. The less said about the futuristic weapons and inventions like laser guns, the better. And if that wasn’t enough, the System Death gave him was bare-bones as all hell! Stats that only grow if you allocate your points, some quests here and there, oh, and the best part, no HP and MP bar. So no min-max strategy will work, no matter how hard Sev tries. So yeah, Sev is in it for quite a ride. At least he can’t die, doesn’t mean he won’t feel the pain of having his body torn in half.

Starting Town (6)

"So, this is the place?" Sev gazed at the doors barring the entrance to the inn Francisca had recommended. It seemed smaller than he had imagined for an inn, with the lamps swaying in the wind from their wooden fixtures.

Light filtered through the cracks of the wooden windows, the incessant noise of chatter entering his ear as Sev walked towards the doors. In but a brief moment, Sev placed his hand on the doors and pushed, the creaking noise an abrupt interruption to the background noise.

Heading inside, Sev noticed the patrons, their clothes worn and torn but the smiles on their face depicted a rather joyful tone. His entrance gathered the attention of all the people inside, their eyes instantly zooming into the fine make of his rather lavish clothes.

Sev felt like an animal on display in a zoo, a feeling he had not expected to come across in the entirety of his life, until the isekai, that is.

"Good evening, we've got warm beds and good drink." One of the barmaids approached him with a smile, her green eyes bright and joyful underneath the shade of her rather colorful, purple hair. "What can I get for you today?"

"A bed would be all." Sev seized the pouch of coins hanging on his waist, eliciting a jingling sound as the contents reacted to the abrupt force.. "A silver a night, right?"

"That is right, sir!" The barmaid chirped happily, the joyful tone easing Sev's tension of entering the establishment for the first time.

"Then here." Sev placed the silver into the barmaid's hand. "Could you guide me to my room, please?"

"Of course, sir." The barmaid quickly turned heel and moved to guide Sev towards a vacant room. Sev mentally perceived that he was the talk of the inn, most likely, the way he handled himself and how he spoke.

A noble, they called him.

'They couldn't be farther from the truth.' Sev mentally snorted as the image of him wearing pompous ass dresses that puffed up in certain places crept up his mind. He shook them off in favor of observing the rest of the inn.

The room was saturated with the scent of alcohol and intoxication, its presence rampant. The crackling fire and the gentle clinking of glasses created a soothing melody that caressed the ears.

Underneath the illuminating fire, the polished wooden floors gleamed, casting a warm glow, and in their reflection, Sev's gaze met his own, captivated by the beauty of the wooden floorings.

'For a cheap inn, it didn't look as rundown as I thought.' Sev mentally praised the inn as he followed the buxom purplette. As the two crossed the entire bar, Sev was led to the second floor of the establishment, where he guessed the rooms would be located for any weary traveler.

"Here is your room, sir." The purplette barmaide stopped in front of a closed door. A sign with the written words 'Vacant' was taken into the hands of the barmaid with a quick tug. "Pleasant dreams."

With her task done, the barmaid left Sev to his own devices to serve the patrons on the floor below. Sev quickly shook his head from the NSFW thoughts invading his mind at the thought of the cute barmaid 'serving.'

Opening the door, he was greeted by a comfortable looking room with a desk large enough to accommodate a few things if he did bring some, as well as a bed that looked well-kept.

That being said, they both utilized ordinary, low-grade components, indicating the overall material quality of the inn.

"Not like I care." Sev muttered to himself as he plopped onto the bed. He didn't feel tired, not physically per se, but the mental toll the day had on him was something else entirely.

He closed his eyes, hoping for sleep to come to him, but after a few minutes of not even feeling sleepy, he opened them once more with an irritated growl.

"Jeff, how do I sleep?" Sev glared at thin air before a holographic window popped up in his vision.

[As a zombie, UnMortal user Sev is unable to sleep.]

"… You've got to be fucking kidding me." Sev face palmed and crashed his head into the ground. "… What the hell do I do now…?"

He remained silent as time passed, the moonlight stealthily seeping through the cracks of his wooden window. While he endeavored to stay motionless and calm his weary mind, darkness enveloped his vision, and a numbness spread throughout his body.

Eyes cracked wide open, pupils dilating at the sunlight directly streaming into them. Sev quickly got off the bed and rubbed at his stinging organs with gritted teeth.

"Fuck, that hurt." Sev growled as his hands continued rubbing. He stopped, then opened his eyes slowly as they acclimated to the brightness of the room. "Okay, the fuck happened?"

[UnMortal user Sev unknowingly entered an induced coma state in an effort to replicate the action known as sleeping all living beings require to function.]

"… Are you saying I literally went into a fucking coma?" Sev stared at the holographic window as it began writing new lines.

[In essence, yes.]

"And you didn't bother to tell me that I can do that whenever I want?" Sev looked like he wanted to throttle the System as hard as he could. Sadly, said System was intangible and he would be wasting precious time and energy(mental) trying to do the deed.

[UnMortal user Sev had not asked, thus this unit is not required to relay said information.]

"… Fuck you, Jeff." At this rate, this single sentence was going to be Sev's favorite line for the entirety of his time stumbling around the dark in the world of Dys. "Alright, ignoring the fact you want me to suffer, or is it Death who wants it? Point is, can I wake up at will if I go into a coma intentionally?"

[Affirmative.]

"… Okay, that's good to know." Sev sighed, then perked up once more. "Wait, how do I do that?"

[UnMortal user Sev can relay specific instructions into your body to do actions in case of a specific parameter being met.]

"… So basically, an internal alarm."

[Affirmative.]

"… Alright, alright. I can work with this." Sev hummed as he patted himself down. "Well then, Francisca should be waiting for me at their shop. Better not keep her waiting."

As he fixed himself up, as hard as it was without a mirror, Sev moved towards the door and exited the room.

His next destination, The Avian Couturiers.

Just another one chappy day, hade more shit to do.
