The New Beginning

Pandora was never the one to be adventurous and lively, always hiding behind her friend, Charlie, shyly and gingerly, hoping for the best in every situation that no one would direct any questions in her path.

Pandora and Charlie have known each other practically since birth, they have always been polar opposites, one very outgoing and always a troublemaker, whereas Pandora was always shy and kept to herself. Pandora always found it hard to make friends, especially since she was so shy and introverted. Pandora was born into a family that loved her greatly. Unfortunately, they passed away in a car accident when she was very young, leaving her on her own for a while until Charlie's family adopted her. They weren't that fond of adopting her at first, but since Charlie kept begging her parents non-stop, they decided it would only be right for her to be adopted by them as they were the closest thing to a family she had.

As soon as she found out she was adopted by her best friend's family, she was ecstatic to the point she couldn't sleep the night before due to her excitement and nerves. She was waiting for this day. After so many lonely nights in the orphanage, she would be able to spend the rest of her days with her best friend. She was the happiest she could ever be after her parents' passing.

Pandora couldn't help but stare at her ceiling as it slowly went from the color of the night and moon to covering itself with a comforting orange, signaling the awaking hour of many including herself, as she needed to get ready for the awaiting event of leaving the orphanage. Her bags were already prepared a week prior to the knowledge of her adoption. She didn't have many things due to growing out of them quite quickly, but all her fragile memories and important things have been packed with great care, scared of ruining more of her beautiful and happy memories with her parents and previous family members.

She always remembered to wear the necklace her mom gave to her on the day of her death, a beautiful emerald gemstone necklace, perfectly complimented her beautiful almond/fox eyes, just like her mother's, and the beautiful strawberry blonde hair she inherited from her father, freckles covering her face, with a delicate nose, strong and bold eyebrows. She was a perfect combination of them both.

She felt as though she was a sad reminder of her parents' deaths, looking exactly like them both, the increasing burden sadly now overpowering the excitement she felt not too long ago. She just stood there in front of her mirror looking at herself with sadness and guilt. She couldn't hear anything apart from her own thoughts. Not even the heavy footsteps and knocking could get her out of the trance she was in.

Not until the lovely orphanage lady came in and lightly shook Pandora out of her thought.

"Are you ok Pandora? Ready to go to the registration desk?" Asked the lady cautiously and gently, I blinked once after trying to get myself out of my previous trance,

"Y-Yes, Yes, I'm ready. I was just thinking about some stuff." I gingerly stroked the back of my neck with a gentle smile, quickly asking,

"Are Charlie and the family already here?" I asked curiously,

"They should be here shortly. Finish getting dressed and I'll take your luggage downstairs, by the time you're ready they should be here." the lady replied.

"Alright, I'll see you soon. Go get ready," she finished.

There I was quickly leaving the room for the bathroom to finish getting dressed. Not really needing to do much, she just wanted to prepare herself, remembering that it is the norm for everything to not be perfect, because no one is perfect and that's alright.

I will be completely fine, I was feeling weird and feeling sad and guilty, but it's also OK to move on, slowly but steadily.

That is when she knew she was ready to leave her bathroom and then her room, of course, looking behind her to stare and glance at all the memories she had in this kind and warming place, she was going to miss everyone that took care of her, but this was for the better and she was more than ready.

That's all the encouragement she needs to leave her room and close the door behind her for the last time. Taking a deep breath and heading towards her new family, towards a new start, and a new path of opportunities ahead.

She was there just a couple of feet before the door. She took a couple of deep breaths, placing her hand on the contrasting doorknob, almost feeling warmer than her actual hands. There she opened the door, the light slowly enveloping her from the opposing room. Seeing a glimpse of her new family, she smiled releasing a much-releaved breath.
