Chapter 97- sympathize
Charlotte's heartbreaking voice echoed in Margaret's consciousness, as if she were pleading for reassurance and comfort. Yet, Margaret was trapped, unable to intervene as Charlie led Charlotte into the red house with the small garden.
Their interactions seemed pleasant on the surface, with Charlie giving Charlotte enough space to relax while subtly expressing his fondness for her. Perhaps this charming facade was difficult to resist, as Charlotte continued to maintain contact with Charlie even after leaving.
Days later, or perhaps on weekends, Charlotte would receive his invitations and secretly meet him at the red house. They would dine together, discuss literature and history, and admire the illustrations of elves. Every hobby of Charlotte's found a willing listener in him, every trivial annoyance received his comfort.
Indeed, Charlie was drawn to her, although his gaze often resembled that of someone admiring a pet rather than a lover.
