NOT HIS MATE

MAYA

I was beginning to get very nervous for reasons I can't explain.

Its been more than 30 minutes since Nathan came back from his first race as a fully fledged werewolf. What could be taking him so long?.

"Honey are you okay?",

My Mom walked up to me with a worried expression.

"Am okay Mum, I just feel stuffy in here, I guess I should take a walk outside, i will be right back" and with that I left.

I need to find Nathan, I want to be clear on what to expect, I really want to find out if there's going to be a future for us.

I saw a passage down the hallway leading to goddess knows where, I'm sure it will lead me to where Nathan might be.

"Look who we have here...."

Oh no!,not now.... Ryan showed up looking terribly weird with an oversized suit, too tall and lanky for my liking.

"You look so charming today Maya"

he said with a wicked smirk on his face.

"Sleeping with Nathan sure did you some good. Wow.... who would have thought Miss nerdy could be this girly.

"Ryan you are greatly mistaken, Nathan is my best friend, don't go about spewing nonsense".

"Ha!, best friend you say?, who in his right mind would want to be friends with a weakling like you?, you know sometimes i think Nathan's gone crazy or he's under your spell.

Who knows maybe seduction might be the only ability you possess as a she-wolf.

But if you give me your body to explore, I might begin to see you differently".

Ryan said walking towards me.

I moved backwards till my back was up against the wall.

"What are you trying to do Ryan?" I panicked.

"What does it look like am trying to do?, of course I want a fair share of what you give to Nathan". At this time Ryan walked up close pinning both my hands to the cold hard wall.

"Maya just give in I promise I will be quick and no one will know'.

I struggled trying wriggle my hands off his tight grasp.

"Let go Ryan!, you don't wanna to do this, you can bully me all you want and I won't complain but please don't force yourself on me.

"You are very laughable Maya, is this how you plead with Nathan when he's shoving his dick! inside your fucking ass!?, Ryan was beginning to get very pissed at Maya.

"Let me make it clear to you Maya, Nathan will not help you forever, you are not even his mate to begin with, I'm sure he found his mate already as we speak so just stop wasting your fucking time!".

Am not sure you will ever find a mate either because the moon goddess never gave you one".

I stopped struggling for a second trying to comprehended what Ryan just said. What if he's right?, that explains why Nathan never came back looking for me.

No! I have to find him and when i do, all these doubts will be cleared.

Ryan tried taking advantage the moment i stopped struggling and with anger I hit him so hard in his balls that he fell to the ground with a loud scream.

I quickly dashed to the hallway I wanted to go through before my encounter with Ryan.

"Arrrrgh....you will pay for this Maya!".

I couldn't care less about Ryan right now, all I need to do is find Nathan. My heart raced erratically.

Walking down the hallway, I discovered different rooms and suddenly I caught on Nathan's scent, my heightened sense of smell was one ability I possessed even though I don't have a wolf yet. I traced the scent from where it came from and it led me to a slightly open door.

Nathan must be in there I thought to myself.

As I was about knocking, I heard faint moans coming from the room. I froze on the spot.

Was there someone in there with him?, I began thinking about the possibility and how devastating it would be for me if I found out he truly was with his mate, or Maybe am over thinking things.

Ryan's words sure got my mind messed up. I held on my breath then slowly took a peek inside and I was welcomed with a heart wrecking site!.

"There stood my best friend, having a romantic kissing session with my greatest enemy Tania!".

My legs lost balance and i staggered backwards.

I know I should have expected a scenario like this, somehow it was as though i knew the goddess won't be so nice to me by making me Nathan's mate....

Tears blinded my vision. Why does it have to be Tania of all people. Why.....?.

"My world has crumbled yet again, my eyes couldn't hold up my tears as I cried silently.

My pain wasn't just about Tania being Nathan's mate but because i knew I've lost him as my best friend forever.

The last thing I want to do is to become a third party to their relationship. My haters will be so overjoyed now.

My days of peace and warmth have suddenly come to a halt. Now I understand the words of Ryan, Nathan can't help me forever,specially now that he's found his mate who's no other than my class bully.

"How cruel can the moon goddess be to me?".

I must have really offended her in my past life for me to be given such a cruel fate.

I don't know for how long I stood there but as soon as I was done crying, i quickly ran out the hallway....I ran as fast as my legs could take me, I didn't care who I bumped into or who bumped into me, I just needed to leave this place. I need to be alone to forget everything that just happened.

I finally found my way home, got into my room, pulled off my gown and went straight to the bathroom. I looked at myself in the mirror and I was so terrified at my own appearance. I looked so terrible right now with my make-up smeared face and my hair a tangled mess.I washed up and laid myself to sleep.

The next day, i did not go to class, but rather stayed in bed all through the day. My Mom brought my meals to my room.

"Honey what really happened to you yesterday, you just ran off despite my calling out to you. Did anyone bully you?" she asked worriedly.

"No Mum, no one bullied me, I'm perfectly okay..., its just....Nathan". He found his mate," My looked at me sadly.

"Oh my poor baby, are you sad because you think you lost your friend to Tania?" my mom said giving me a comforting smile.

"Of course not Mom, why will I be affected by her, am not even the least jealous about her", I said rolling my eyes but honestly I was still hurting.

" I know you Maya, you like Nathan very much."

"You know, your Dad and i have always thought Nathan would be the perfect match for you, because he had proven to really care about you and I can tell that he adored you.

Maybe he also thought you would become his mate before now, but who knows what the moon goddess plans are.

I just want to let you know Maya, whoever the moon goddess chooses for you as a mate will love you very, very much.

"Hold on Mom, you and Dad have always thought Nathan might likely be my mate?. I was surprised at the revelation, Who knew my parents were watching us closely. Now I understood why they were so comfortable with Nathan being around me, too bad it had to be this way.

"Maya, do not feel sad if you did not find your mate in our pack when you come of age, it will only mean he's out there looking for you.

"You will find him someday."

I feel so relieved hearing these words fr my mom.

"Honey, you carry more responsibilities to our world and pack than you can ever imagine, it's not just about Blood Rose pack.... In due time you will understand.

"cheer up".

Mom left shortly after saying these words to me.

What could my mom be talking about?, did she and dad know something I don't know about?, What could that be, I wondered.

Since Nathan didn't turn out to be my mate, I guess I will just have to brace myself up for what's coming next.

I wouldn't want to be mated to anyone in my pack knowing how much they hated me.

I'm desperately hoping the moon goddess wouldn't be that Merciless towards me by giving me a mate in our pack, It will be better I never get to find a mate rather than to be mated to any werewolf in my pack.

I thought about the words Mom said over and over again till I finally fell asleep.

I woke up very late the next day. Ever since the coming of age ceremony, I tried my best to avoid Nathan at all costs and i wasn't ready for school yet because I know Tania and her friends will be all over the place trying to rub the fact that Nathan is hers now on my face.

My brother Lucas was another pain in the ass, he never ceases an opportunity to get on my nerves. He thinks I thought too highly of myself and that was why the moon goddess gave Nathan to someone else as a mate.

Well I just hope things turn out for the best on my coming of age ceremony which was just in a few months time.
