Thud

The Beasts collapsed on the ground raising some dust that could barely be seen in this dim surrounding.

Hu…hu…hu

I panted and I kneeled on the ground. It's only then that I realized what I just did.

I killed it?

I look at the collapsed rabbit just beside me.

Blood is flowing like a small stream from its opened mouth which is as big as a basketball.

Sharp teeth sticking out from it like razors that could cut trees. Fearsome, can't believe I killed this beast.

As I was about to turn around to look for Jack and miss Geneva, I saw white smoke rose from corpse of the defeated beast.

"Wha- What's that?" I reacted taking a step back afraid of the unknown.

Then the smoke rushed to me at a blinding speed and entered my body. I became afraid even more.

All of a sudden I felt burning sensation running through my whole body.

From my skin up to the deepest part of my bones, it runs with my blood making unknown modification.

It runs through my muscles to its every tissue up to cells which were now screaming in delight.

I feel it. Pain.

An unimaginable pain that struck through my deepest being.

It remains for a good three minutes before it subsided.

Then warmth soothing feeling envelope me.

Argh

I groaned.

I never felt something like this before. The feeling of being baptized by a heavenly water wiping away all impurities.

Clean

Then I suddenly smelt some stench jolting me awake from my previous ecstasy.

Black stinky liquid covered my whole body. They seem to came out from my pores during my mutation.

I'm not so sure though.

While I was wondering what my current status currently, Jack's voice suddenly sounded from behind

"How's the feeling of getting stronger?"

'stronger' I thought. I flexed my biceps feeling the surge of blood and contraction of the muscles then I punch out.

Swoosh

Pah

Woah it create a sound of impact in the air. This amazing.

I trace back my gaze to Jack and grinned.

"Strong" I replied.

It's just now that I realized that the strange thing that came out from the beast or maybe the beast itself with the strange feeling from the food.

It means ,there no drugs. It's just the blessing that came along with the catastrophe.

"Was your question now answered?" A cold question from miss Geneva while trailing her eyes in my body.

"Not full well miss Geneva, but I think my guess this time is quite close." I replied. I guess I already know what Jack mean when he said black and white co exist.

It simply mean that there is still fortune in misfortune. This whole circumstance where beasts emerge , while it is unfortunate it also open a new possibility for the human. It is the chance of evolution.

It might have been dark from the start but the light of hope never fail to shine to the people of the world.

And the food issue might have some connection with this beast since the feeling I just felt earlier resemble the one felt from the food. It's just that the food gives milder effect.

I look at Jack's grinning face.

"Do you feel powerful after experiencing the baptism of power energy?" He asked which then I nodded.

"Yeah, my muscles seems to be full of energy. And it's coursing through my whole body like currents." I said while flexing my bicep yet again which is more developed now.

And I felt a bit taller as well.

"If so , we should test your strength." Jack suddenly said while grinning from ear to ear giving me chills. I narrowed my eyes with twitching eyelids.

This guy …has some evil intention.

"That can wait. Let's go back. You just want to bully this newbie." Interrupted miss Geneva which I'm thankful of.

"Tsk, You no fun at all." Complained Jack.

But I felt like I just escaped for now, it might not end here. Jack might design me a special training later.

Soldiers were scary.

But I won't back down. I'll defeat this guy in the future. I subconsciously smirked.

"And what were you smirking for?" a tire eyed Jack woke me from my thoughts. He's mood was dampened.

" No- nothing ,sir." I stutter.

" Okay"

"let's head back." He said then we marched our way back to the camp .

Passing many tents , we reached the central area in about a 10 minutes.

"The same time tomorrow as per instruction of our captain. Now go" Miss Geneva said while turning her back leaving.

"Familiarize your new strength , we don't want you to accidentally hurt your fellow recruits." Jack said as he was about to leave but he pause right before his shadow was about to fade in the dark night.

". And Congratulations by the way. You're now among the ranks of mutants." He added and he left.

My eyes widened and excitement overflowed. So that's it.

My lips then parted into a wide grin.

"MUTANT!!!"
