Unexpected Surprise

The bell rang indicating the end of the school end. Therefore, everyone was hurriedly trying to escape from this institution of learning.

Ethan leisurely packed his bag and slung it over his shoulder. Then he exited the classroom and walked through the hallway. The hallway was filled with boys and girls of Faith Academy who were making way out of the school building.

The Faith Academy boys' uniform consists of a brown blazer over a white long-sleeved, button down shirt, a black ribbon on the collar, matching black pants and brown shoes.

While the female uniform consists of a brown blazer over a white long-sleeved, button down shirt, a black ribbon on the collar and a black skirt.

Normally, he would just wait for a bit before leaving the school. However, on this particular day, his father had asked him to buy a few things before coming home so he had to leave school early.

If he wasted too much time and missed dinner, he would have to face the wrath of his father.

"Euk, damn it. I don't want imagine what would happen to me." Ethan was suddenly overcome with a nasty case of goosebumps and hurriedly shook his head. Despite his father's carefree personality, he's someone that you do not want to get on his side.

Just how old would his father have to be before he wasn't so scary anymore?. Seriously, he even got this sneaking suspicion that, even if his father ended up becoming an old man, Ethan would still never win against that man.

Bump!

While having those scary thoughts, he was brought back to reality as he bumped into something or rather someone. He looked at the person he accidentally bumped into, who was now sitting on the floor with a slight annoyed expression.

The person was a young teenage girl that had shoulder length red hair tied in a side-ponytail on the left side, green eyes, and smooth white skin. She was wearing a baggy sweeter over her uniform. She had a curvy figure that couldn't be hidden by her uniform, and what's most impressive about her appearance is her breasts, which appeared to be too big for a girl of her age.

"Hey, I'm so sorry about that. Are you alright?" Ethan asked with a worried expression and he extended a hand to help her up.

Her annoyance quickly disappeared as she witnessed Ethan's polite action. "Yeah but you should really watch where you're going." She commented as she accepted Ethan's hand and he helped her up from the cold floor.

"Yeah sorry about that." He said nervously as he scratched the back of his head

"Yeah, I haven't seen you among the first years. A second year perhaps?" Ethan asked

"Yes, sorry I haven't introduced myself. I'm Rose Scarlett, You can just call me Rose."

"Okay, I'm Ethan Myles." Ethan introduced himself. However,

"This aura, It can't be!" Rose's words came out as a silent whisper which wasn't audible to the ears but Ethan still heard what she said.

As he was about to ask her what she meant, he suddenly remembered. "Oh Shit, sorry but I have to go." Ethan said as he dashed out of the school building.

"Wait!" The redheaded girl called out but it was too late as Ethan had already disappeared from the school grounds.

"How the hell is he so fast?" She asked with a shocked expression.

-"Who the hell is that guy."

-"Is that Ethan guy right?"

-"Yeah, what about him?"

-"I heard he completed a 50 meter run under three seconds."

-"What is he, a car?"

-"Not only that I heard he also set a record for other physical records as well."

-"What? You can't be serious."

Rose heard a group of boys talking among themselves and she immediately frowned.

"Crap." She cursed.

***

"Geez, that took forever." Ethan grumbled as walked on the streets leading to his house with a white bag filled with groceries.

The sky has already darkened indicating the arrival of the night. Despite it being dark, Nathan had no problem seeing. His journey to the grocery store took longer than he expected.

"Aww man, dad's going to kill me when I get back." Ethan released a heavy sigh and accepted his fate. The belt of a father should never be underestimated. Luckily for him, he had outgrown his child stage so there was no need for him to taste the belt, but the memory still traumatized him regardless. Even the very thought of such memories sent shivers across his body.

As he made way to his house on the empty street, he continued to have an ominous feeling that refused to go away. This deeply shocked Ethan as he had never felt this way before. He could only think of two reasons for this, and he believed it fell on the latter.

He then felt an immense sense of danger behind him and jumped to the side. It was a reflexive movement on pure instinct without any regard of his landing.

Right afterwards. A loud sound of something crashing was heard and the ground trembled. Nathan's eyes widened as he saw the cause. The place where he was standing a moment ago – was stabbed by a scythe. But what surprised him the most was the person, no you can't call that a person.

What stood before his eyes was a shadow like entity which was wearing a black robe. Only one thought came to mind when looking at this being:

"A Grim Reaper! The hell!!" Ethan thought with a look of confusion and horror, as he unconsciously took a step back.

"What the hell is that? What kind of sick joke is this?" These were Ethan's line of thoughts. At first, he thought this was a prank but the shadow's feet were not touching the floor.

Before he knew it, five shadows arose from the ground with a scythe in their hands. As the result of this, he did what anyone in this situation would do, Run!!

And run he did!!

The shadows, of course, won't just let their prey run away and made chase. As Ethan continued to run, he realized he couldn't lose them, no matter what he did or where he ran to, It's like they are tracking him.

He swiftly took a sharp turn to the right and instantly regretted his decision. He had entered an alley and a dead end. He tried to leave but it was too late the shadows had already blocked his way out.

He cursed his bad luck and took several steps backwards and the shadows slowly approached him. Regular kids might have been scared out of their wits by this development, but... Rather than crying out or screaming, he continued to remain calm.

"People usually say that I resemble my dad all the time, right? So what would he do in this situation?"

The answer was pretty obvious, though.

Ethan looked around to find any weapon or object he could use to fight. He would be damned if he fought those scythe wielding shadows head on without a weapon.

He eyes then spotted a wooden baseball bat that had metal spikes around the end, looks like luck was still on his side. He quickly picked it up and took a fighting stance.

Ethan slowly but carefully regulated his breathing. His wildly-beating heart finally regained some calmness and the inside of his head seemed to clear up.

'Good.'

A brief flash of a grin formed on his face.

And then he dashed towards the shadows without a moment's hesitation.
