Chapter 18: New

Honestly I didn't know so I was honest. "I don't know." He nodded and pulled me into him. "Tell me what you want." I held Jacob as he held me and we laid in the bed for a minute. "I want to try. I want to be with you, and I want to be a wolf. Will it change my personality?" He laughed and kissed my head. "Not your core values no, not your quarks, but it will add things." I looked up to see him struggling. "It will add strength, speed, hearing, eye sight, your jealousy will increase and if we mate you will be forever attached to me. Feel me better. You'll be able to mind link the others, and even read their thoughts at times. Unless their shielded."

I sat up and looked at Jacob. "Can I think about it he nodded and pulled out pearl earrings. "These are for you." Treasures of the sea.... I thought back to what Paco had said. "I am not really a pearl girl." He laughed and nodded pocketing them. "Can I speak to Oliver after you all vote again." He nodded and went to leave. "Wait I have another question." He froze and turned.  "Who is the alpha?" He smiled and walked out the door.

"Jacob?" He opened the door and smirked. "Are you not going to answer?" He shook his head and closed the door again. A minute later the door opened and in walked Oliver. "What do you think about all this?" He shrugged and came over to the bed. "I think I haven't done a good job raising you. I have told you many things over the years and you seem to do the opposite." He bumped my shoulder and I squeezed his hand. He squeezed back and smiled. "I think this is a decision you need to make for yourself."

He kissed my head and left the room. I sat up all night trying to come up with the right choice. I trusted myself, I trusted Jacob and the rest of them. I shot up and ran down the stairs grabbing my coat, and then out the door headed down the beach. I knocked on Paco's door and he opened it rubbing his eyes. "You know more then anyone I know, and I need to talk, get advice." He smiled and let me inside.

I took off my cost and started the tea. "You don't need tea this time darling Valor. You want to know of you will make it?" I turned the stove off and sat at the stool across from Paco. "Yes." He looked at me differently this time, softer. "Tell me did you take the treasure of the sea?" I shook my head. "He offered me the pearls, but I declined." He nodded and smiled. "The earrings are a type poison don't wear them. Tell Jacob to toss them back to the sea. It is a mean trick making the wearer greedy. As for your question... Do you believe you can survive?" He asked as he straightened his mustache.

"I think so, I survived a lot over the years." Paco looked at me and he mhmmed. "You must believe in order to succeed." I nodded and kissed his cheek. I slipped money into the pocket of his kimono. "Love you Paco." He took my arm. "When you change come visit me still. I love you darling Valor and you will be welcome no matter your appearance." I promise I yelled as I bounded down the stairs and into Oliver's red house.

"Where were you!" Jacon roared as he slammed me into the wall. "Ow Jacob let go." His nails dug into my arms and tears gathered in my eyes. When he looked at me he let go. "Oh shit I'm sorry Valor." I looked down to see blood dripping down my fingers. My coat sleeves shredded. My brother ran from inside. "What happened?" He asked as he pulled Jacob away. "I.." I looked down expecting to see a mark, but instead there was blood dripping on to the wooden floor. He grabbed a kitchen towel and pulled the coat off me. He stared off and by the time he one arm I was feeling woozy. The twins came in just as I slid down the wall and one of them grabbed me. "Valor?" My brother called and I turned my head slowly. He held my other arm and the bleeding wouldn't stop.

"It's fine Ollie." He screamed at me. "Don't you do this, not like this Valor. Come on." He tapped my face and Paco came in. "Stupid wolves. Get the alpha He needs to turn her now or it will be to late." I passed out and I remembered feeling lifted, light. I didn't want to die, but I wasn't scared either. I felt the softness of cushions and then needles and a fire sensation rip through my body. I fought it at first, but then it became to painful and the more I relaxed the quicker it spread and dissipated.

I laid there feeling it spread until in encompassed my whole body and then it went out all at once. "Valor it's been a day you need to get up?" Oliver said as he sniffled and squeezed my hand. I squeezed back and he yelled. "To hard!" I let go and opened my eyes. "Sorry Ollie." I croaked and then turned over. "Val?" He whispered and my head felt like there was an axman inside. "Yeah?" He jumped on me and I let out a huff. "My head Ol, it's pounding." He rustled and handed me a water bottle. "Drink it."

I drank and it helped relieve it enough I could open my eyes. "Thanks." He smiled big and then I heard him in my head. "You did it Val. You made it through the transformation." I looked down at my wrists. There where no marks and then Oliver lifted a bloody bandage to show a blood streaked leg, but there was no wound.

"You are going to need help with controlling and shielding your thoughts." I nodded and took a deep breath. "Let's go surf and I'll teach you." He left and I got dressed in a black two piece and headed downstairs. The waves sounded so close that I grabbed my ears. "Valor just breath and focus on me." I took a deep breath and focused on my brother inheard his heart and his voice. "If you focus to much the sounds can me loud as hell." I grabbed the board and went right into the water. It was still chilly, but not as cold as before.

I paddled out and Oliver followed. "Okay so to hear focus on it. Try to hear Mike and Mark arguing." I looked st theor house and closed my eyes. "You idiot she isn't going to want us interrupting her learning." Mike yelled and there was a big bang. "Well she's out there and I miss her." Mark whined. I laughed and stopped focusing. "Good now let's do sight." Look at the sand. "Can you spot the red towel?" I looked at the sand and saw almost every grain. "That's incredible." I glanced toward Pacos and saw the new towels he hung where purple, and then past that a red towel hung in a doorway. "I see it down there past Paco's." My brother yelled "Yes!" I laughed and pushed him a loud omph sounded before he flew off his board and then into the water. "Oliver?" He surfaced and climbed on his board. "Damn you have to relax or you'll be tossing me through the walls. A bruise showed up on his ribs before I saw it starting to heal.

"There was a bruise." He nodded and lifted his arm to show his tanned skin. "It's fine we heal super fast, just humans don't and door handles are definitely a challenge." I laughed and laid on the board. "How does the mind thing work?" He pulled my board over to him and looked down at me. "That's harder. "You have to concentrate on the person you want to contact in the pack. There's like a rope and when you feel it you tug and think of what you want to say. "Okay I'm going to try."

I thought of Oliver and green. "Oliver I think your red house is tacky." He slapped my thigh. "It is not!" I laughed and thought of Mike, light and white. "Be nice to Mark he just misses me." Mike ran outside and mind linked me. "You are already on mind links." I nodded to see him toss two thumbs up.

Mark needed to be linked too so I found the black string in my head. "I miss you too Marky Mark." He flew by his brother and came running into the ocean. I looked up to see Mike following.

"Valor!" Mark yelled as he pulled me off the board and squeezed. "You are surpassing your brother with mastering these new gifts. I smiled and climbed up offering Mark a hand. "Ow Godzilla!" I loosened the grip. "She feels stronger then you." Mark said as Ollie helped Mike up.

"Yeah which could be a problem." They all nodded. "What did you do so far?" Mike asked as he pushed Ollie off. "Listened to you two, practiced sight and hearing, then mind linking." Ollie jumped back on. "Explain the shield thing Mark." Oliver said before crashing into Mike. "With that it's opposite of linking. You have to shut the person out or block the cord." I pictured their links turning off and opened my eyes. "Did I do it?" Mark tried to link me. "Yeah I think so, did you get what I said." I shook my head no.

He smiled and hugged me. "Perfect now there's only a few more things." Mike said as he panted. "Reflexes, transforming, anger and strength. Then you'll be okay."

"What does anger do?" They all loomed st each other and I tugged the lines in my head. "Okay chill." Mark said as he rubbed his head. "What Jacob did the other night when he tore your arms." Mark said taking my hands. "That's what anger does to us. We transform or claws can come out, teeth, it's not pretty." Mike finished as his brother looked at them.

"I think we need to put together a party for her tomorrow night." The boys cheered, but I shook my head. "I have work tomorrow night." Mark shook his head. "No you can't until you have it all down." I huffed and Oliver stared at Mark and Mike. They nodded, and looked at me. I found the black cord and tugged. "He saying not to tell me what to do?" He smirked and I knew that was a yes. "She's good." He pointed and Mark tugged. "Are you going to go anyway." Without missing a beat I answered yes.
