A helping hand

" Alaric Bennett, the leader of the Bennett mafia against whom we are dealing in this case, said that I'm like his son and you believed it? " He said in a rather sarcastic voice.

" I-I did say that I believed him, Mr. Morris." Cassandra stuttered, since a part of her had believed that man.

" It doesn't matter anymore, Ms. Brown. My bad that I expected someone... no specially a psychologist to be smart enough to know about it."

" A psychologist is supposed to be concerned with the victim's mental stability rather than a background check on the case." She asserted

" Enough you both. We came here to discuss not to fight. " The professor tried to bring peace between them and sighed in relief when Cassandra's mother called out to have lunch.

The entire lunch was silent. Alex threw continuous stares at Cassandra, who could now hardly swallow. Finishing their lunch, both of them exclaimed in unison " Lets go" 𝘎𝘰? 𝘞𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦 ? Cassandra was dumbfounded by this duo.

" But you both have to rest today and also where are we going? " She asked her professor, being curious and confused.

" We are-" he was interrupted by Alex.

" To my office," he declared. 𝘓𝘢𝘥𝘪𝘦𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘎𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘭𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯, 𝘐 𝘱𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘢 𝘤𝘰𝘯𝘧𝘶𝘴𝘦𝘥 𝘴𝘦𝘭𝘧. She made an imaginary face slap.

Hours back,

" Dude just listen to me now and go straight to your office along with that girl. Your place can be dangerous." he roared through his phone.

" And I'll lose control if he strides towards her place . Remember she has a family for god's sake Max." on the other hand, Alex argued on the phone.

" I'll take care of it. For now, it seems to be that he might raid your place, so go to your office and make sure to hide that guy Matthew."

" Alaric's mind changes faster than speed of light, damn it. " Alexander said remembering all his doings.

" Senor, just get out of there, and move while I'm being nice else I'll stop dis deal. " Maxence groaned being tired of his stubborn friend.

" You sure about it ? You know I don't trust you." He said to Maxence, who had now reached the top of annoyance.

" Just go already damn it " he whispered.

" What? I couldn't hear you."

" Nothing, just move as per the plan for once !" He screamed and ended the call.

" This guy left the mafia and now I've gotta clean his mess. He will never change for sure. " He mumbled, laughing.

Although he did help Alexander since he couldn't stand up to injustice, he was still loyal to the Bennett Mafia. It wasn't that he would leak every information to him, but since this case was something he witnessed on his own, he couldn't stand being helpless.

Besides his so-called best friend Alexander had made a notorious comment which was enough to trigger him up.

He was about to relax when he received a call from Alaric asking for his presence in the office. The very next moment, he marched towards Alaric's office thinking that everything had moved as he had planned.

But little did he know he was going to deal with bigger mess. He entered Alaric's office and found Ohio standing there. Ohio was one of the best members when it came to any kind of deals.

" The Eagle gang's leader is not backing down. He said he would get that Mexican dealer's contract. I need you to clear this mess." Alaric said, which made Maxence turn towards Ohio.

" This was your deal to handle. I don't know how, but since our boss wants this deal, it is on you if this deal slips from your hands, you are going to pay for it with your life."

" Sir, we found out that he has a daughter who lives in a hotel here. We can use her." He said in a hesitant voice.

" I don't care. Do what you need to do and if he does not back down, then tell him no one in his family will be alive." Ohio hurried out after hearing his response.

Maxence now turned towards Alaric, who had an overly calm expression on his face.

" You know very well that if it's Ohio, then we will get this deal. Besides, I'm already working on a mission now. Then why this act? " He questioned Alaric with a visible annoyance in his voice.

" You are a smart one Max. No wonder why Alex chose you. " Alaric said in a rather sarcastic tone.

" I request a precise explanation, boss." he said, trying to hide his internal fear.

" You know Max, recently all my plans executed against Alex are all going in vain. As if someone is telling him everything," Alaric said in a dark voice, stepping towards him, which made Maxence sweat.

" Do you suspect anyone from our team? " he said as he gulped in fear of getting caught.

" Haha ! Do you think anyone will have the dare to do so, putting their life on the line, Max? But at any cost, I don't want a single problem on my way. So finish that case as soon as possible, if any."

" I will " he said, and went out of Alaric's office. He let a sigh of relief ad thought about his next move.

On the other hand, Alexander's mind was full of thoughts. Alaric had made a faster move than expected even though he had calculated all the possibilities. Besides, Maxence had hardly managed to help him and that's where his main concern was.

Maxence could get caught at any moment during this risk. As per Maxence's information, moving to his office was the safest thing to do and he had no option other than trust Maxence with the safety of Cassandra's family.

As said, he took both of them to his office and decided to disclose his plan to Cassandra. He had already decided on this plan with his uncle, to which he agreed with much hesitation, but there was no other way. He turned towards Cassandra, who was observing every feature of his office.

" Ms. Brown, right now I might sound like a thug to you, but I want you to play a role of victim other than a psychologist at this moment" It was clear from her expression that she couldn't understand anything and decided to explain further .

" Ms. Brown, the Bennett mafia is dealing with a contract for which they will be using the daughter of the dealer as their advantage. I want you to swap with that girl and get kidnapped intentionally by them."

Her jaws dropped listening to what Alexander said and looked towards the professor who had a helpless expression on his face.

" Getting kidnapped? intentionally? by the Bennett mafia whom you declared dangerous? Are you in the right state of mind, Mr. Morris? " She was unable to process all that was said just now.

" It might sound cruel asking you to do it suddenly, but remember Ms. Brown, your safety is my responsibility and I'll protect you with my life, so please calm down. There's no other way to consider Alaric's brain."

After all, there was really no other way, since there was none they could trust. Besides finding someone, even if it was to pay, it might be troublesome since the mafia could take action anytime. But before that, convincing Cassandra, who had no experience of such a world, was difficult.
