It took Rydan a while to believe the word that comes out of his mother. Lies that had to keep him hating fairy, his values that he keeps upholding since his childhood, his unreasonable built-up hatred he relishes, turn out to be something his mother made up. Or something she kept repeatedly reminds him, in her way to hate Lady Byrl further, for having the only thing she would never have until the day she died.
His father's heart.
He can't believe his mother is actually the second mate to his father. The fact that Lady Byrl is the true mate to his father sounds more acceptable now, it makes so much sense. That day he thought it was a dream, an illusion, the day when his father, King Arax, stood not that far from Lady Byrl tower, staring at her window and whispered in the night, with so much despair and regret.
"I'm sorry"
