The Dark Pact

"Why are you late?" He questions, sounding exactly as I remember "You know, traffic." I apologize, making a turn to trudge to him majestically. "If you say so," he nods, the night preventing my view of his face "Thank you, Azazel," I mutter, my tone neither high nor low. "Why did you want to see me?" He polls, his voice resounding through the dark abandoned warehouse. "Yes Azazel," I smirk and try to hide the slight fear of reject nagging at the back of my head. "What is it about?" He implores his arm going to rub his prominent chin as he fixes a stare at me. "I want my soul back," I inform, matching his gaze with mine. "How do you plan on getting it back?" He quizzes, stepping a few inches my way into the light. "With a deal Azazel, or more specifically, a pact," I tell using all my energy to stop my feet from moving backward. "That is very difficult Xander, you sealed your vow with a drop of blood," he argues, the moonlight falling more on his face as he tilts his head upwards. "And I'm here to make and seal another," I converse awaiting a reply. "No, you got what you wanted, to be rich, famous, and loved, what else do you desire?" He asks, his supernatural blue eyes having a scary glint to them. "My soul," I repeat. "Plus I know you love making deals Azazel, no matter how you try to hide it, I see the excitement and mischief you try to conceal." "Same way I see the little fear of rejection bubbling within you, I detect it in your eyes, I hear it in your heartbeat, and the blood pumping through your veins," he sneers in response, squaring his wide shoulders to come off as intimidating. "Hence we understand each other well, we know you've got more to win than lose, and I've got more to lose than win," I confess. "You are right," he lets out in a husky tone, his red lips curving into a hint of a smile. "So what do you say demon, you in?" I invite, my eyebrow raised "I am," he gleams. "What's this pact about?"

-The New Boss-

Helena's POV

It's been a week since my encounter with the famous Xander Miles. No matter how hard I try, I can't stop my mind from wandering back to our last conversation.

His reaction to the sound of my name is vividly inscribed on my subconscious, flashing my imaginary vision every chance it gets and leaving a blushing tinge to my cheeks in its wake.

If I was ever told not less than two weeks ago that I would run into everyone's favorite artist, I would have laughed so hard that I may have peed my pants, but here I am after having the pleasure or displeasure. That I'm yet to decide, to be so close to him physically for a max of three times. This is more than any fangirl could ask for.

My bestfriend and roommate Allison can't still believe me and insists I take a picture with him to show her as proof. Don't be surprised, we all have that crazy bestfriend who drives us insane but at the same time protects us in any way they can, much like our guardian angel.

Speaking of the bestfriend, we've been through a lot together from the moment we met at a cafe the day I arrived. She has never left my side, except for working hours and bathroom visits, anything apart from that has always had us being together.

She even accompanied me at the time I had to travel to my home country, Nigeria when my mom had a drastic break up with the previous man of her dreams. It nearly drove her (my mom) into depression, so I had to be present, with Allison in tow.

The bestfriend refused my suggestions that it wasn't necessary, and together we boarded the flight and began the journey to Africa. Our arrival at my hometown that sits in the northern part of Imo State, South-East, Nigeria gathered attention to us from the market square which leads to my house.

The main attention grabber was none other than Allison of course with her creamy white American skin and unusual attire of a miniskirt which is not seen in the small village, a wide smile on her face as she basked in the hot sun, and the idea of getting tanned.

Anyway, that's a story for another time. Where were we? Ah, Xander. Yep, I still have mixed feelings about the Greek god. Despite how I want to shake off the hostility I feel towards him, my feminity resists, assuring me that I'm right in my behavior, significantly as I recall how bad he treated one of the sluts that morning.

Regardless of her whorish ways, it shouldn't have been a reason to treat her like a scum bag though I have a nagging feeling she must have done something to warrant such treatment, even Allison agreed with me on that one.

The redheaded friend of mine simply went ahead to call me out on my bad language and hasty reaction to the scene as she chastised me by saying I should have waited to hear from the other side.

Well, what is done is done especially my take on him, as that event has sealed my impression of him thus first encounters matter in my book, except by some miracle my opinion changes, but as of now, it's certified.

On the other hand, my mother gave me the surprise of my life when she agreed with my theory of not liking him hence she has always been a sucker for romance however having various divorce papers in her closet from different men including my so-called sperm donor.

I pray deep in my heart every day she finds the happiness she seeks which hopefully would be long-term and not last for five years which is the maximum any of her recent marriages has lasted since she put herself out there.

One of us deserves to find love and I know that person isn't me. I've written off being romantically involved with the species and will nonetheless, end up having nine puppies, not cats.

I am called to existence by the voice of the fatherly figure in my life from the moment I got a job here, in the place of Mr. Cain my boss who insists I call him Jerry but I find it inappropriate to do so at work.

"I'm happy everyone is present," he sends a smile our way, his wrinkles more prominent by the recent action.

"Is he here?" Khale my colleague inquires voicing our thoughts.

"Why would you assume it would be a he? A woman can be the boss too," Christina argues, catching him off guard and I struggle to hide my grin.

"I pray the boss would be a male, and a hot one at that so we straight girls can finally get some," Nadia winks provoking me to roll my eyes at her utterance.

"Get your mind out of the gutter Nadia," Mr. Cain snorts before whispering. "And lower your voice, he can hear you."

"I got it correct," Khale sticks out his tongue at me and I make a move to catch it but he is too swift that I missed it.

"You got lucky," I sneer, daring him to release even a letter and I'll pounce on him. Luckily for both of us, he gets the memo and keeps shut.

"He'll be here any minute, compose yourselves and act professional," Mr. Cain advises, and silence reigns around me.

I take the opportunity to peer at the interior of the room we are standing in that serves as a bar/diner during the day and club during the night as if for the last time. I have no idea what the new owner will do but what I and my coworkers know of is that there's going to be some major renovations.

I secretly wish this new guy would have gotten hit by a truck and died or got a strange virus but even I know that's a heartless thought to yearn on a fellow human so I suck it up and brace myself for the change coming our way.

For all, we know this guy can be a mafia lord or a psychopath, though I have a prominent belief that I may know who it will be.

That doesn't matter anyway because I already hate the guy. Crazy idiot kept us lined up and standing this way for two hours yesterday and had the guts not to show up. I hate incompetent people.

"And who by chance are you referring to, my dear Helena?" The newcomer inquires causing me to go rigid in my spot.

I know that voice, I muse, recognition registering in my tiny brain. Hold up, did I say that out loud?

"Yes darling, you did," he confirms, and this time I whip my head to his location only to see non-other than Xander standing there and looking eatable in a hugging blue vest and ripped jeans, a smirk curving his lips.

"You--"

I get cut off by Mr. Cain who speaks. "I'm sure you all know who he is except those who've lived under a gutter their whole life." He chuckles rubbing his pot belly straining on the buttons of his faded white shirt that's tucked into brown slacks.

"Everyone, meet your new boss, Xander Miles!" He announces like a show host would, the absence of a microphone not deterring his words from being heard loud and clear.

"I hope you all accept me, as it will be a pleasure to work with you," Xander says, addressing the whole room but his eyes are fixated on me. "Helena, you can close your mouth now."

Different feelings run through me, the first is embarrassment as all vision turn to my direction, then anger at him for putting me in the spotlight, and lastly, frustration for not having control over the situation.

"Fuck you," I mutter pushing the person blocking my way and stalking to the door at the back of the room that leads to an empty alley just behind the club building.
