The daily life of monsters

"I'm sure we can all get along. We're not that much different, once you get past the tentacles and flames." Nem, a human cursed with immortality, flees from human society into the forest of the dammed to escape capture. Unfortunately for him, he runs into the 'flacara', a monstrous species which feed exclusively on human flesh. Longing for death, he chases down the tribe of monsters each time he returns to the world of the living, being consumed over and over without reaching his desired result. After hundreds of years, the immortal forgotten by time has managed to brute force his way into learning to communicate with the flacara. Now he has a new goal; bring the humans and the creatures of the forest together for an era of peace and understanding.

L-2: Witch

Once upon a time, there was a girl.

This girl was born between the love of a monster and a human, granting her magical powers beyond explanation.

She called it magic, taking the first letter from the word mystery and taking the gic from the beginning of her father's name.

Her mother taught the girl to hide her magic from the world and only to confide in those she felt she could truly trust.

The girl grew up happily, but as she reached adulthood, a war broke out between the kingdom and the east. For years her country had kept her safe, but remembering her mother's warning she kept her head down and continued towards her path of becoming a chef.

As the years passed she successfully opened her own restaurant, fell in love and had a child. Her life wasn't extravagant, but it was perfect.

However, one fateful day, she would be exposed for who she truly was. She was taking a casual stroll around the town with their toddler and for just one moment, let him out of her sight.

Within that moment, the toddler wandered in front of a carriage and with no time to think, the girl formed a wall of ice in the middle of the street. The horses crashed into the ice but failed to smash through, with the smash of the carriage being deafening in the usually lively streets.

The girl ran towards her child without a thought of the people she had endangered and embraced her child, reality only sinking in when she heard the yell of the guards.

'Seize the monster!'

Within moments she was swarmed by a dozen people, but the girl refused to fight back against normal citizens. The child looked on in shock as his mother was taken away directly in front of him.

She was almost immediately put on trial, the jury clearly both terrified of her abilities and intent on destroying her. The carriage incident had no deaths, so it was simply tossed to the side. Instead, they claimed that by hiding her power to herself she inadvertently caused thousands of unnecessary deaths from the kingdom's military. It was the death penalty, to be executed on midnight that very evening.

The punishment wasn't simply for herself, however. It extended to her husband and child, for both hiding the truth and being a potential carrier of the same magic. Her husband escaped, not wanting to be killed for a truth he had no knowledge of, leaving his child behind. The girl, however, had already accepted her death. If they didn't want her, she didn't want them either.

The mother and child were strung up together on a cross, a fire blazing beneath them. Onlookers cheered from around the bonfire, a mixture of relief and gratitude in the air. As she heard the last cries of her confused son, the girl thought of one last hurrah that could give her one final victory in the face of betrayal.

Using the rest of her strength, she enchanted the moon itself turning it a blood red. Her spell would grant any child born under the red moon a magical ability, with her legacy returning every one hundred days to strike again.

As she finished her spell, she faded to dust, never to be seen again. She was born as a girl, passed as a witch and was remembered as a curse upon the land.

Don't ever mess with magicians.
