Why does no one ever see her pain? **** Calla Anderson, an introvert by nature, has a twin sister completely opposite from her withdrawn self. It was natural for many to prefer the bright child to a dull one, and Calla Anderson had no problem with that. The relationship between Calla and her twin sister remained sweet and firm even though she wasn’t favored like her. But…. that was until he entered the picture. The moment Calla laid her eyes on him, she knowingly gave her heart to him. Unfortunately for her, he was the same as others, falling her twin sister’s beauty and charms. As if keeping her feelings for him locked and hidden, while watching the relationship between her twin sister and him blossom into something more, wasn’t enough, an ill-fated incident fell upon her and her twin sister, and Calla was the only one who survived out of two of them. That moment when many realized that fact, her life turned out for the worse. Her parents blamed her. Her sister’s admirers admonished her. Her sister’s friends loathed her. Her acquaintances left her alone. And him….he was the worst as she had to enter a marriage with him to save an agreement between their families. That’s right. She married her sister’s fiancée and it was from there that Calla wished she was never born into this world. ***** DO NOT USE COVER WITHOUT PERMISSION! Commissioned by r.voh.k on IG
''How's the food, Calla?''
*murmur*
*murmur*
Amid the hushed words in the restaurant, Vincent focused on the masked lady steadily scooping food into her mouth, slowly chewing and savoring the taste and flavor of the meal.
''It's good.'' After swallowing her chewed food, Calla replied truthfully. The meal at the restaurant was way better than the meal served in the hotel.
Calla was really thankful that Vincent decided for them to eat at a restaurant before venturing to their outing.
''I'm glad.'' In response to her words, Vincent said with a warm smile on his lips, indirectly brightening up his handsome features and also attracting eyes, specifically feminine eyes, to their table.
''…..'' Glancing at the imaginary red beating hearts of the ladies, Calla merely lowered her eyes and continued eating her meal. It wasn't like this was the first time she was witnessing Vincent's law of female magnetism.
''When you're done, we'll be off to a clothing store. I'm going to get a hoodie for you.'' Vincent's words made her to almost choke on her food.
Hoodie?
Calla looked at Vincent with unspoken questions. At the same time, she drank water from the glass cup to digest her food well.
''Y-You want to buy me a hoodie?'' Placing the glass cup back on the table, Calla stared, asking to be sure that she did not hear wrong from this man seated opposite her.
''Yup.'' Vincent replied, popping the 'p' in the 'Yup'
'Why?' Now Calla paused her eating to focus on Vincent. He brought her out of the hotel to buy a hoodie? What happened to them exploring the city? He shouldn't forget that they needed to return to the hotel before night fell.
''Relax Calla. We will definitely return to the hotel on time.'' As though he understood her thought, which he did, albeit accurately, Vincent assured the not-so-calm Calla.
'Even if we spend a little time outside, no one will talk.' Vincent thought, feeling amused by his fretting masked friend. He wondered what type of face Calla would make if he told her that…but he couldn't unless he would indirectly expose his identity.
''....Okay.'' Calla mumbled, feeling a little silly for worrying so much. Obviously, Vincent would very much be aware of their limited time outside the hotel.
''Um…excuse me…'' an unfamiliar voice joined, grabbing the attention of both Vincent and Calla. Their sight fell upon of a young lady nervously fidgeting on the spot with a phone in her hands. Her eyes were focused entirely on Vincent, completely disregarding Calla who was seated opposite him.
''H-Hi…my name is Macy.'' The lady introduced herself with a shy smile. Though her words were directed to Vincent and not Calla.
''Hello.'' Vincent returned with a distant smile, not adding his name to his introduction. Calla watched how the light in the young lady's eyes dimmed, probably disappointed with the alienation and lack of name.
She never expected Vincent to be this distant to females who were attracted to his princely looks. Given how the females in her university praised him as their kind and gentle Prince Vincent, Calla still held the opinion that he was kind to everyone, including strangers.
Besides…he was kind to her when they met at university after their first meeting.
''I am sorry if I'm being a bother. It's just….'' The young lady went on with her words. Vincent patiently listened to her words and Calla kept on glancing between the between, especially Vincent's aloof smile.
At some point, she resumed eating her meal while listening to the story of how the young lady found Vincent very similar to an old friend of hers. Calla never expected someone to be this thick-skinned.
Well…if Vincent had to deal with this kind of thing every day, she could understand his distant self at the moment.
Following this little moment of Vincent rejecting the young lady's request for his phone number, Calla and Vincent finished their meal in the restaurant. Under Vincent's lead, Calla walked out of the restaurant and entered a nearby clothing store.
The encounter with the young lady was pushed to the back of Calla's mind at the sight of the price tag on the hoodie hanged on the clothing rack.
''Vincent….'' Turning her gaze to the side where Vincent stood, Calla was about to request that they should leave the clothing store empty-handed. She had enough hoodies even though most of them were thrifted, plain and of the same color.
It didn't change that she had enough hoodies. Why did Vincent was to add to her collections?
''I will take what's she holding and do you have a matching set for the hoodie?'' Ignoring her begging eyes, Vincent looked at sales lady by his side.
''Yes, we do. Please be a little patient, sir.'' Giving her best smile, the sales lady left on light happy steps with her co-workers throwing glances at the handsome man and his masked lady.
''Vincent….''
''Calla….''
Staring at the masked lady with pursed lips and smiling, handsome man, the co-workers glanced at each other with the same thought at the pair gazing at each other.
'They are dating.'
''Please pardon my excuse sir, this is the only color of the hoodie that we have.'' Staring at Vincent with an apologetic gaze, the sales lady came back with a light blue colored hoodie.
''Blue….'' Vincent looked thoughtfully at the hoodie with sales' lady, then shifted his gaze to the hoodie in Calla's hand. A knowing smile suddenly graced his lips when a thought came to him.
''I'll take the hoodie.''
''That will be 150 dollars for both, sir.'' The sales lady was over the moon that Calla and Vincent didn't leave the clothing store with frowns on their lips, not satisfied. Her daily customers had always been picky. If the clothing store didn't have what they exactly wanted, they would have left without giving a second thought.
She didn't expect light to shine on her today with these understanding customers.
''Please pack it up.'' Vincent nodded, handing over his credit card to the happy sales lady. Feeling a very stinging gaze on the side of his face, Vincent didn't need to guess twice that a certain someone was not pleased with him.
''You take the blue hoodie. I'll take the brown hoodie.'' He said without meeting her gaze.
''...''
Why didn't she realize Vincent could be quite thick-skinned like his fan girls?
Calla thought, knowing that she could do nothing other than to accept the new hoodie from Vincent. Besides…she was quite happy with the new design and change in her old collection of hoodies. Perhaps she should start changing her wardrobe when she had the time and money. She quite liked it when she had worn the sweater that Vincent had noticed on her at the university.
Calla suddenly felt a burst of anticipation when thinking of changing her wardrobe. Miss Lola would surely be excited about her decision.
Thinking of her middle-aged boss, the corner of Calla's lips tugged up, unaware of the eyes falling on her now and then.
Eyes that certainly belonged to Vincent, whose eyes softened at the sight of her small smile, and the sales lady's co-workers, who couldn't stop their glances on the warm scene of the handsome man gazing at his masked lady again.
