The Broken Sword

The worthless swordsman or the broken sword. that was what people called me. my name long since forgotten by everyone but me. despite the fact that I was one of the best swordsman that could be bought. no these unusual nicknames came from the fact that I never had so much as a copper on me. my equipment was all old and worn. some of it being repair. the most valuable thing I owned was my horse. the reason behind my poverty was simple. I never took coin as payment. only rations, repair, room and board. there was a reason I never took coin as payment, but that was my secret. a secret I never intended to let anyone find.

Rescuing the mage

I leapt off my horse once I was close. My sword pierced the man closest to her as I quickly finished him off. The man hardly had any time to react before he fell before me. My sword slashed into another man, and Faith's horse began pulling away from the men attacking her. She looked back at me as I made quick work of a third man.

I whistled for my horse as I fell back. These were no north men. They were just panicked villagers trying to get on a saddled horse. I jumped back up onto my horse, and rode after her. My sword fell low again as I tensed my legs so I could keep a hold of my horses bare back.

I kept my eyes on Faith's backside as we rushed onward towards the main hall. My skill with a blade kept everyone clear of my right side, but my left was starting to pick up stragglers. I pushed on. I could switch hands if it got hard to ride. We rushed through the throng.

Faith went up the steps into the main hall. Still on her horse like a good girl. I leapt off my horse at the bottom of the steps, and sent my horse off. He could take care of himself for a while. I was the only one he would come to in a battle.

I brandished my sword in front of me stopping any argument before it could begin. Faith was being stopped at the door. Seemed as if they didn't want to let her in with her horse.

"Let her through or get your head cut off," I put my blade up to the throat of one of the guards, "I don't have time to argue."

The steady way I held my blade, and the look on my face was enough to express how much I really meant what I had said. He backed off, and Faith went through followed closely by me. Neither one of the door guards was ready to fuck with me. I helped Faith dismount, and walked her horse down the steps into the main hall to a place I could tie her to.

"That horse shouldn't be here," Someone who sounded important yelled at me.

"Take one look at this horse," I sheathed my sword, "White horse with a fancy stride. This horse is very expensive royal bloodlines."
