The worthless swordsman or the broken sword. that was what people called me. my name long since forgotten by everyone but me. despite the fact that I was one of the best swordsman that could be bought. no these unusual nicknames came from the fact that I never had so much as a copper on me. my equipment was all old and worn. some of it being repair. the most valuable thing I owned was my horse. the reason behind my poverty was simple. I never took coin as payment. only rations, repair, room and board. there was a reason I never took coin as payment, but that was my secret. a secret I never intended to let anyone find.

Panic

Nausea coursed through me as my heartbeat sped up out of control, and my hand went up to my throat. My fingers ran down the scar on my throat slowly as my breathing picked up. Before I knew what was happening she had both hands on my face, and was forcing me to look at her. Calm spread through me. It felt wrong, but despite the fact that my mind, and body wanted to panic I could not.

"What did you do?" I asked as she let go of me, and stepped away to sit back where she had started.

"Please eat," she gestured to the bread in my hand, "We have time to discuss things further once you've got something in you."

We sat in tense silence for a while as I slowly ate the bread she had given me. She stared at me intently. I didn't see any fear in her eyes as I studied her back. I felt as if I'd seen her somewhere before, but I couldn't grasp where.

"Who are you?" I asked as I set what little bread I had left in my lap, "I won't eat anymore until you tell me."

She stared at me. Thinking carefully.

"You may call me Faith," she gestured to the bread, "Now please finish. You need to get your strength back after using as much mana as you have."

"Mana?" I ignored her so called name for a second, "Do I look like a mage to you?"

"Yes mana," Faith smiled more out of frustration than anything else, "You are a cursed man. Curses can give their unfortunate holders magic ability over time. Provided it isn't some sort of death curse." she mumbled to herself quietly for a moment, "Your curse for example is a transformation type of curse. To transform you have to have mana so the curse made it so you did. Otherwise you would have died a very long time ago as the curse would have had to feed off your life force instead to fuel the transformation."
