Chapter Forty-Two

Daniel seethed from where he stood, hidden on the other side of the last wagon where Amelia and General Bludborne stood. He couldn't believe what he had just heard. He had avoided going to sleep, hoping that the little healer he'd grown fond of would go for a walk. He sought an opportunity to speak with her, perhaps kindle a relationship with her.

When General Bludborne stepped out of the back of the wagon and started walking with her, though, Daniel was stunned, then stricken with an uncontrollable jealousy that the General could be so close to her. Just who did he think he was? Amelia belonged to Daniel. Or so he thought. Realization sank in as he continued to listen to their conversation. Amelia and General Bludborne were fated to be together. That explained why the General seemed to care about her so much, but Daniel couldn't stomach the thought.
