A poor girl born with congenital heart disease has not had much hope for the future, but her life takes a sharp turn when a wealthy, handsome man proposes marriage to her following her heart transplant. It was the most surprising thing to happen to her in her 22 years of life. Abigail had never thought that Christopher Sherman, a young, multibillionaire businessman, would approach her and express his desire to marry her. She was ecstatic and accepted his proposal. But little did she know that the 32-year-old handsome guy had a secret reason for wanting to marry her. Abigail stepped into his world with a lot of hope in her heart. But marrying him was not the happy ending. It was just the beginning. Will she be able to keep her heart from breaking? What will happen if she discovers his true motive? ============= "Life was easy before I married you," said Abigail with pain in her eyes. “I was dying, but I was happy.” “What do you mean?” Christopher clasped her arm. “Stop talking nonsense and eat the medicine,” he hissed, placing a tablet in her palm. Under his fiery gaze, Abigail cowered. "Do you find it difficult to meet my demand for a baby? It has been two years, Christopher." He didn’t answer her question. All he did was stare at her, acting mute. “Why do I feel like you don’t care about my feelings?” Abigail asked. “Don’t you love me?” His silence was the clear answer. ============= A special thanks to Aurora, my editor, for her helpful suggestions on how to improve the synopsis. She shifted her gaze to the distance. She didn't dare ask what his parents had said to him.
"Are you still worried about what happened in the morning?" Christopher asked as he sat in the chair.
"I can't forget it easily," she replied after some time.
He held her arm and turned her to face him, his thumbs gently stroking her as if to comfort her.
"I dealt with this issue. Nobody will bring it up."
His assurance couldn't take away her anxiety.
"Those people who were babbling nonsense were all fired," he went on. "This matter is closed now. No one is going to bring up this issue, okay?"
Abigail knew he had suppressed the matter. Nobody in the company would ever know what happened inside his cabin that day. People would soon forget about it, but the humiliation she had felt and the hatred she had seen in those women's eyes had left an indelible mark on her heart.
That was something she would never forget.
