Maniacal laughter echoed in the interrogation room. It was chilling to hear, but Maddison remained unmoved. She watched emotionlessly as Margaret gave details of what happened all those years ago.
Memories that Maddison had buried deep in her heart resurfaced. A car crash was what hurt her mother and her.
"I didn't get why she would put her daughter in the orphanage. But it makes sense now. She must have thought there were others who wanted to kill her and her daughter. Did she ever think it would be me?" Margaret lamented with a grin.
Maddison held onto Elias's hand tightly for support. He was her rock, the one thing that was holding her together. Elias wrapped his arm around her shoulder and pulled her in close.
He didn't want her to suffer through this. He wanted to shield her from this pain.
"We don't have to be here," He whispered to her.
Maddison's eyes remained transfixed on Margaret in the interrogation room.
