I pressed the STOP button on the elliptical and wiped the sweat from my forehand.
"Jarred, what are you doing here?"
I couldn't believe my eyes.
"I moved to Miami a few weeks ago,” he replied nonchalantly.
"You're no longer in Key West?"
Jarred and I dated off and on after high school. When I moved to Miami, he stayed in Key West to start his boating company, and we dated long-distance. We made time for each other on the weekends, but he always made everything about him.
Staring at him triggered painful memories and his words echoed in my mind: "You'll never be anything without me. You never supported me!"
Everything was "me," "me," "me" when I was with him. He was the epitome of selfishness.
His head was shaved bald, and he had a black goatee that reminded me of Nigel, only Nigel's was smoother. Though this new look on Jared did resemble Vin Diesel, without the sculpted muscles.
