Things just got better

Later in the evening I and Mama spent most of the time planning on how we are going to move to the city.

"ninety_eight, ninety_nine, one hundred" I said with opened mouth as I counted the money.

"Mama if each bundle has a hundred thousand naira that means all together its five hundred thousand naira"

"Come and see the Lord is good" my mother said as she danced around the room.

"I had no idea there are good people remaining in this world" i said with a huge smile on my face

"When last did we have this type of money?" Mama said as she cried

"Aarrgghh" I said and put my left hand over her shoulder as I pat her "We'll be fine mummy, we'll be fine. I can even take up a part time Job when I get admission into school so that we won't be only spending but also adding to the money we have"

"But i don't want you to get distracted from your studies" mama said worried that I'll not be able to focus while working and studying.

"Don't worry about me mama, I won't be working throughout, once i have enough money I'll open up a shop for you and you'll be earning, is that fine?"

Mama nodded "Okay, that sounds fine"

"As i thought. So Mama we'll leave tomorrow morning, very early because I don't want any of our neighbors to know when we are leaving"

"We should start packing abi?"

"Yes, I'll help you, i don't have any many clothes anyways so it'll be faster".

We were so eager to leave that slump. The people there were full of hatred, envy and jealousy. I don't know why they were never their brother's keeper cause we were all there because of a reason; "we don't have money to survive in the city " but the people in this slump could kill for a hundred Naira.

Sandra and Mama set out for the city early in the morning. They got a bus to the city and arrived the city by 7am. The city wasn't far from the slump they resided in, it was just the rural part of Lagos state, Nigeria.

My name is Sandra and I'm the only child of my parents. I lost my dad when I was 16 and I couldn't further my education since then cause I and mama were in extreme poverty. I've been at home for three years now, until this kind hearted man sent from God changed my story. Thanks to God this was around the time Jamb registration had begun and I didn't waste time to go and register immediately we got to the city.

I and mama lodged in a hotel for the day and decided we would go house hunting the next day.

"A room and parlor will do" I suggested

"Yes around a hundred and fifty thousand naira" mama replied

"Or maybe less"

"My daughter, Lagos is much more expensive than you think. If we get an apartment for a hundred and fifty thousand naira, we should grab it immediately"

"Okay oh mama"

"How did your registration go?"

"It was good mama, the center I went for registration was less populated and the registration went easy just waiting for my reprinting" I said. Joint admission matriculation board (Jamb) is an exam taken by students in Nigeria after secondary to determine their capability and capacity to enter the university. Only four subjects are to be taken an exam on and English was compulsory.

"May you write and pass in Jesus name"

"Amen oh"

"She left the slump with her mother this morning boss" one of James bodyguard reported.

"Anything else?" James asked

"One of our men said she went for her Jamb registration"

"Make sure she gets posted to a center close to my house so we can keep an eye on her for safety. She shouldn't be taken to another state"

"Yes boss"

"Her school of choice?"

"She put Unilag as her first choice boss"

"They should give her a scholarship"

"Yes boss"

"And make sure they don't lack anything. I don't want her to work, send them money every two weeks"

"Yes boss"

"You can leave"
