The Archaic Dragon Mage

Wyatt was alone in the world. When the rifts opened the world was thrown into chaos. Archaic mages came through those rifts, and war after war followed. The last war had ended when Wyatt was just a baby, but he had still lost his eye to it. The empty socket, and loss of depth perception made him an easy target. Wyatt being an orphan meant that no one back him up when he did get targeted. Wyatt was used to fighting for himself, and the draft was going to force him into military academy. He had no genetic markers to become an ability user so he had already accepted the fact that he would probably die during his two years required military rotation after the academy. It was just a fact of life. Non ability users were just cannon fodder, and archaic abilities were highly restricted. Wyatt didn't think anything off it. That is until he found a marble in an old rift area. A marble that would change everything.

The unnatural elements

Ok then. What can space do?

At the moment, nothing, nothing at all. You do not have high enough understanding of the element to use it. Minimum of level 1 required to use an element.

What is my current space element level?

0.01 Or 1/100th of a level.

That much huh? I snorted as I stood up slowly.

"Are you alright?" Ethan had stood up while I was thinking, and was now in front of me, "You kind of spaced out there for a while."

"Yeah," I almost laughed at his choice of words, "Just a weird dream."

"You didn't dream about eating people did you?" Savannah asked with a kind of joking tone.

"No," I looked up at the rapidly darkening sky, "I dreamed about the dragon that made the mana crystal. The one that turned me into a dragon."

Savannah, and Ethan both stilled. I hardly noticed since I wasn't really done talking yet.

"She was trying to save the species," I frowned, "She said that she made it from her own core, and that's how she made me this way. She apologized for doing this to me."

I went silent as I thought over the whole conversation again.

"If a magical beast used it's own core as material than that would be the end for that creature," Savannah interrupted my line of thought, "It would be just as bad as pulling out her own heart. She wouldn't die as fast, but it would be an incredibly painful way to die."

"But she did it anyway," I stretched my wings slowly, "She deemed her own life less important than whatever she needed me for." I looked at them both, "The real question we should be asking is why? Why did she need to wait? Why couldn't she just bring back dragon kind herself? Because I don't know. I don't understand any of it. Did she know that I would be the one to find her core?"

"Why did she have to wait?" Savannah wondered aloud, "Why create a core that can create dragons instead of using her power for herself?"

"We're done discussing this for now," I snorted, "We're being hunted."

Savannah, and Ethan both readied themselves for a fight. Several creatures rushed our way. They were the same wolf like creatures that had attacked us earlier, but they were a group of four tier five instead of tier three. It wasn't very hard for me to take two of them on at the same time. Ethan, and Savannah each went after one.

Ethan took out his first. I'd severely wounded one of the ones I was fighting. I'd taken some minor damage, and been tossed around pretty good in the process. It wasn't easy for them to pierce my scales so I was getting roughed up internally one hell of a lot more than externally. Now that I only had one to deal with I overwhelmed it in less than a minute.

I moved over to help Savannah next. Dealing a finishing blow on the already distracted beast. Ethan finished off the wounded one he'd taken from me. Savannah, and Ethan put on their night vision glasses while we had a moment of peace.

"We should move away from here," I signaled for them to get on my back, "The blood will attract other beasts."

My stomach grumbled angrily. I wasn't going to eat right now. I was worried about the danger of staying here so close to the corpses. Plus my belly wasn't big enough to fit a whole one of these beasts. My muscles tensed as I crouched down to let them on my back.

I ran. Starting out slow so I wouldn't toss them off my back accidentally, and accelerating quickly from there. Ethan clung to the spike in front of him while Savannah clung to Ethan. I smirked at the sight of them clinging to each other. My wings desperately wanted to be extended, but it would be stupid for me to experiment with right now.

I stopped a good distance away. It winded me to run like that with so much weight on my back. I laid down slowly so that they could get off my back. Savannah hopped off first. The notch for her hadn't fully formed yet so her spot wasn't nearly as comfortable as Ethan's.

"There's more than five elements," I announced, "There's ten of them."

"What?!?" Savannah looked at me.

"I just figured it out myself," I relaxed as my damaged body healed.

I'd lost almost half my health in that exchange, and I needed a brief break.

"There can't be more than five elements," Savannah frowned at me.

"But there are," I snorted, "There are ten of them. Five that any magical creature can manipulate, and five that are different from the rest of them. They're not like the other elements. You can't just use them like the natural elements."

"That's impossible," Savannah stammered.

"I thought so too," I snorted, "But I've seen the Forge of worlds. I've seen the elemental murals within."

"The Forge of worlds," Savannah frowned at me, "That's just a rumor. Something the elves we've captured mumbled as they cursed us."

"What are the other five?" Savannah glanced Ethan's way.

"I only know one of them," I scanned our surroundings slowly, "Space."

"Space element," Savannah looked down, "The Forge of worlds can't be real."

"It is real," I growled quietly, "I've seen it."

"Why don't you show it to me?" Savannah snapped.

"I can't," I frowned, "I'm not strong enough to access it. I shouldn't have been able to see it in the first place. I don't think I'd be able to show it to you even if I could."

"What did it look like?" Savannah sat down cross legged.

"A large domed cave," I pictured it in my head, "The walls were unnaturally smooth, and along the outer walls there were ten murals. One for every element we know, and a bunch of empty ones. It alternated between elements we know, and the blank murals. Three of them were lit up."

"Lightning, water, and wind right?" Savannah finished for me.

"One of the blank murals wasn't all the way blank," I snorted, "It was dark with a few stars carved into the top few feet. That's how I know what one of the unnatural elements are."

Natural vs Unnatural elements. Curious?
