Chapter 30: Grant's Dream

Grant’s perspective:

Blurred red hues splattered about me. I can’t quite take in what is happening. I reach my hands out to touch but feel nothing. Where am I?

“Come with me. Hurry.” I hear the faint cry of my mother’s voice. She repeats herself again and again and again. The volume of her scream grows with every repetition until the shrill screech feels like a strong man’s hands are gripped tight around my brain and trying to press out every last drop of grey matter.

Her hands are on me. She is shaking me. I turn and look at her. The blurry world encumbering my red vision clarifies. “Mom? What are you doing here?” In her arms is a little boy, a familiar little boy—Bram.

“Let’s go. We have to go. Now.”

I’m standing in what was my childhood home, next to my bedroom window.

“Where’s Dad? Why do we have to go?” my confused voice reverberates.
