Chapter 14: A Rough Ride

Emily’s perspective:

“Alright, ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking,” Grant jokes. “You have now crossed into Tanana territory. Your flight will end shortly, but before this bird touches down, she needs to stretch her wings and really fly. So sit back and fasten your seat belts tight. Things are going to liven up in T-minus thirty seconds.”

“Is he serious?” Gabby questions from the cabin.

“I’m afraid so,” Austin answers and puts her in one of the captain seats behind me, strapping her shoulder harness tight.

Austin locks himself in. “All good back here.”

Grant again initiates his awful announcer voice. “For those who haven’t had much experience in the air, may I suggest you go ahead and grab hold of one of our fine, complimentary green baggies, just in case you get squeamish.” He reaches over and tugs at my harness. “You’re good.”

I look over my shoulder at Gabby. “Hold on tight, kid.” To my surprise, her face doesn’t show even a hint of fear. She is excited.
