CHAPTER THREE

MASK

"So we'll get to see your mate tonight?" Agatha squealed. "That is so awesome! We are celebrating finding your mate in London and we get to see Axel and Athena! This is so crazy!"

"Hey, are you sure you're excited to see my boyfriend or Axel and Athena?" Davina teased.

"Oh come on, you know I also want to see your man but I can't help but be excited to see Axel too!" Agatha shamelessly responded. "And we're also on a boy hunt so why wouldn't I be overly excited to see other people."

She turned to the girl sitting beside her, "or aren't I right Christie?"

Christie, who had kept her gaze locked on my face finally tore it away from me to Agatha's direction.

"Huh?"

Both girls were similar in every way, from the blondness of their hair to their turquoise blue eyes, and pale skin.

Their small pink lips and small round face were completely identical.

Agatha hissed then I saw secretly pinching Christie.

"Will you stop that?" She whispered even though she knew it was of no use, we'll all hear it.

I smiled. I don't even want to bother myself by indulging in their conversation. They don't like me and I don't like them either for not liking me.

I turned to the window beside me and I watched as we passed through the clouds.

Davina's parents had allowed us all to go on the trip together to celebrate while they stay back to run the business.

I don't even know what to expect on this trip we're going on. My mission is to keep with Athena but if anyone heard that they would laugh at my face.

Davina only wants me to go on the trip which is why she encouraged me. Athena is one of the most famous people and not anyone could talk to her.

If we are to see her at all, it's probably going to be from a distance and not up close.

"Hey, what if Axel's my mate? I mean none of us has seen our mate so we could probably hook up." Agatha said from the background.

"You wish, and what about Athena. If anyone's going to be his mate it's definitely her! My god Agatha have you seen the guy? It's glorious! A wonderful creation, perfectly made!" Christie rebuked.

"Then what I'm I? Aren't I a perfectly made being too?" Agatha hissed.

"You wish," Christie said again and they all laughed.

"Then the same goes for you, we are completely the same so whatever insult directed at me goes for you as well don't you forget." Agatha hissed.

"So you both would want your mates to be gorgeous right?" Davina asked.

"Of course!" Both of them said In chorus.

"What about you, Rachel?" Davina tapped me.

I turned to look at her and smiled. I knew she'll try to involve me in the conversation but I didn't want to be involved.

"If I was her, I would even accept a beggar for a mate as long as he calls me beautiful," Christie whispered into Agatha's ears not so discreetly and they both chuckled.

"Hey, that's enough Christie, I invited you because you're my friend but don't make jest of my best friend, or else I'll regret it!" Davina scolded giving both of them and threatening look.

"Why did you even invite her? I mean, who would want to be with her?" Christie hissed then eyed me in disgust.

"Hey, Christie!" Davina was about to lose her temper but I quickly held her hand to refrain her.

"It's okay babe," I said.

Davina scoffed. "I regret inviting you bitches along, now you've ruined the mode."

*****

"Hey, don't let those two ruin your mode okay, it's still early and we still need to party." Davina tried to console me.

We had landed two hours ago and lounged at the hotel, Damon booked for us.

Davina and I shared a room while the twins, Agatha and Christie shared another one down the hall.

It's far from ours and I couldn't deny how glad I was for that. Because of the quarrel on the plane, Davina has refused to acknowledge them so they weren't here chitchatting or mocking me and rudely staring at me.

The room Davina and I got was really beautiful, it was fancy like a room designed for royalties.

I'm sure Damon especially book this room for Davina.

Everything was so fancy and organized, that I was even afraid of touching anything.

I had sat quietly on a couch close to the window and then stare out through it when Davina came to join me.

"Dave, you know the only one right now with the party mode, are you. I wasn't here because of the party, to begin with. The reason is just to support you." I said.

"You're no fun at all!" Davina huffed.

"You've said that a good number of times that I believe you should have known that fact by now."

"Even still! I want you to enlighten up even though it's just tonight! Please do this for me."

"Then when will I have the time to talk with Athena?"

"Wait you're really bent on doing that?"

"Wasn't that one of the reasons why you made me come here?"

"Yes well..." She stuttered. She looked away seeming to be thinking for a while before she turned to me, "fine but in that case let's make a deal," she drew closer and held my hands." Then with determination in her eyes, she said, "I'll help you get close to her but I ain't promising a conversation." She fell her hands in the air in surrender.

I sighed.

She is making big efforts to help me have fun tonight. I can't deny I have no mode whatsoever to be in great spirits but I could try and make her efforts a little easier.

I took in a deep breath then released it knowing full well that I'm going to be exhausted tonight either physically or emotionally.

"So what do you want in exchange?" I asked.

"That you party with us of course. What else is there?" I answered with a sarcastic look on her face.

I swallowed. "Alright. But just so you know, I'm agreeing with dread in my chest."

"Whatever, Let's go get ready, I promise that the makeover will be relaxing."

With that being said, she dragged me to my feet.

*****

After spending the remaining hours we had to relax at a spa for a makeover we were finally done and ready for the party.

Right now I was even more tired to go to a party but when I saw the evening gown Davina got for me for the ball I stopped in my tracks.

"Do you like it? I'm sure it will suit you!" Davina encouraged and I blushed. I blushed for some reason, probably because I actually want to wear the dress.

I shyly got the dress from her and went stepped into the bathroom to change.

When I got out, Davina covered her mouth with her hand's mock astonishment.

"Babe! It's as if the dress was tailored for you, you look amazing!" She squealed.

Her excitement made me blush. I couldn't have looked that good, right?

I was about to turn and look at myself in a mirror on the wall but Davina stopped me.

"Wait, hold on! Let's complete the look so you'll see everything all at once." She suggested. And I nodded in agreement.

She sat me down on a chair and did some things with my hair that I'm not sure of cause I can't see it yet.

For some reason, dressing up is actually getting me excited especially since I saw Davina's expression a while ago. She really looked surprised and impressed.

Well, I will not lie that I don't have a great body. I do, just like every other female werewolf, my shape is gorgeous, more than those of humans and I'm glad that at least I have this one thing everyone else does.

The problem I have with myself is my hideous face that cannot be free from acne no matter what cream I use. Nothing seems to get rid of it, it's like I'm cursed with it.

Well since it's a masked party, my face will be covered except for my eyes which comes to think of it is actually very beautiful as well.

What if I don't look that ugly today after all? And I actually fit in with no discrimination?

"Hey guys, it's almost time shouldn't we get going?" I knock at the door was heard and Christie's voice followed.

"We'll be there in five minutes." Davina hissed out and I couldn't help but chuckle. She gets annoyed easily, especially when she's got a beef with you.

"They have the guts to come call me after angering me earlier." She mumbled under her breath.

I sigh. This isn't the first time something like this has happened so I'm used to it but what pains me is that it had to happen today, the day she's celebrating.

"Davina I think you should let it go and call them inside," I suggested.

"Huh? No way!" She yelled.

"Shh." Why was she so loud? "They'll hear," I said.

"They'll hear regardless dummy so let me express myself."

I heard a discussion from the door then Christie knocked again.

"Girls a car is waiting for us to transport us to the ball, can't you guys hurry it up?"

"That little! She can't apologize yet she's getting orders?" Davina snapped.

She was holding my hair and her grip on it tightened by the second.

"Babe, babe you'll do whatever you like with them but later, please don't kill me," I begged jokingly but with a bit of a warning.

"What?" She asked absentmindedly. She must have looked down at my hair cause the next thing I heard is her gasping and then letting go of my hair.

"Oh shit! I'm so sorry babe." She apologized and I nodded gently while massaging the spot she held.

Then I felt a sting on my hand and it dropped down.

"Stop that!" Davina scolded. "You'll ruin my progress."

"I'm sorry alright, please be quick and be done with my hair already!" I whined and she smiled.

"Alright, alright." She said then continued with what she was doing.

After some time she announced she was done.

I signed and then stood up.

Davina handed me my mask and it covered my face completely.

I'm sure she chose this kind of mask cause she knows I'll be more comfortable with it. I smiled inwardly while putting it on.

"This way," Davina said pointing to where the mirror was.

I took a deep breath and walked there. I closed my eyes when I got there.

Scared that I might still be ugly even with all this dress-up.

"Breath in and breath out," Davina said beside me and I did as she instructed.

"Hey Agatha and Christie, please come in," Davina called them in and my eyes widened.

Why was she calling them in now? I am so nervous to see myself much less get their options of how I look.

But the reason soon dawn on me as I stared directly at myself in the mirror.

I heard the doors open and closed behind me followed by their footsteps.

Soon I felt them close behind me.

"Umm, where's Rachel? I thought you were dressing her up?" Christie asked.

I glanced up at them to see them properly.

They were looking stunning as always with their evening gowns and makeup. They hadn't worn their mask and why should they as they have nothing to hide.

From the mirror, I saw Agatha give Christie a Knock on the head.

"Who else could it be standing in front of you dummy!"

Christie stared at me wide-eyed looking dumbfounded and I couldn't help but chuckle slightly.

"Hmm, I think you should wear some lipgloss as well."
