Chapter 9

He barked orders at Monique to close up Sangre and send everyone home. Jesse was already gone, though Gideon genuinely worried that he wouldn’t actually do what he was told. When it came to Dominique, Jesse had a tendency to get a little irrational. He’d been like that ever since the teenager had latched onto them when Michelle stole them both away from Chicago to hide in London. Gideon understood the instinct, but in this case, he wasn’t sure what they could do about it. Jesse still had to live within human laws. Michelle had guardianship. This was not going to be an easy fight.

Derek waited for him on the sidewalk and led him to the car. “Where to first?”

“I want to talk to JT. Get his version of events.” He paused before opening the door. “What’s happened with Dominique?”

“Like I said, Social Services took her.”

“Michelle wasn’t there to pick her up?”

“Not in a case like this. They want to get Dominique’s statement before handing her over.”
