Silence. It’s deafening. The entire street is deathly still. I portaled us right to the street on which we came out when we escaped. But there is no one around. Even the air is still and stale. Despite the reassurance and comfort that comes from holding my soulmate’s hand, I force myself to release it and step away from the group. Everyone follows my lead and turns around with weapons in hands, looking for the enemy.
