Chapter 37: Mother’s Garden

<strong>*Eris' POV*</strong>

I set the box down on the grass in the garden and sat down beside it. It was a beautiful gesture, but it wasn't enough to take away the feeling of being a caged bird. I spent most of my days napping, either in the garden or in the library. My nights were restless and filled with tossing and turning until I grew too anxious to tolerate it. Then, I would come out here to the garden and gather flowers for the day.

I wasn't sure how much longer I could tolerate seeing the same dozen faces everyday. There was a disquiet inside of me that I couldn't settle down. I felt jittery and anxious, like I was due to erupt at any moment.

When a sudden shadow blocked out the sun, I looked up to see Kyros looming over me like some indomitable force.

"Oh," I said in a rush as I stood and brushed the grass and dirt from my palms. "My apologies." Kyros' one rule was to not bother him when he was in the garden. I hadn't even known that he was out here.
