"Burden" VS Long Legs [1]

"Please don't do this! We can face it together."

Amelia directed a tearful stare towards Jack.

He turned around and showed his signature smile that always comforted her. He twirled back around and dashed off after glancing towards Everette in a signalling way.

Everette took off after waving goodbye and followed after him.

A hand landed on Amelia's shoulder. She turned her head back around to see Ada holding onto her.

"Don't worry! They'll be fine."

She waved her hand dismissively before pulling on the back of Amelia's collar and dragging her away.

"H-hey—!"

"Just have some faith in them. I know you care very much about Jack and always want to be by his side."

She turned back around and faced her with an understanding expression, "That's the same with me, except it's with Everette."

Amelia knew how much Everette meant to Ada but didn't know why. Her thoughts were written on her face, which Ada could pick up on.

"Don't ask why, even I don't know. All I know is that..."

Ada turned back around and continued onwards.

"He belongs to me."

"S-so about the other mutated—"

"Oh, right! I completely forgot about that due to being soooo~ rudely interrupted by that bird." Ada huffed as he placed her arms on her hips.

She then tilted her head to the side in a pondering manner before planting her fist in her palm.

"It's a spider."

Amelia's face paled, "S-Spider!?"

Ada gave a firm nod, "You know... those eight-legged creatures with an exoskeleton that can shoot out webs from its as—"

"I-I know what spiders are!"

Ada chuckled as she examined Amelia's face.

"Are you perhaps scared of—"

"No!"

"Hahahaha!"

Ada wiped a tear that welled up in her right eye before calming down. She pointed towards the girl's dorm.

"The spider is right over there. Be careful when entering; it created a lot of webs."

Amelia gave a timid nod before approaching the dorm.

"Hm... Should I have mentioned it's the size of an apartment? Meh... She will be fine. I think."

***

The entrance into the dorm ground was littered with webs.

Her eyes darted around as she saw charred corpses neatly wrapped in white silk. Distracted by such a bizarre and horrifying scene, she stepped on a string of silk attached to a giant spider web.

She observed the vibration course through each string of web. Soon after, the ground began shaking slightly. A shadow loomed over her; she glanced back to see an eight-legged creature with sharp fangs and eight eyes.

SCREECH!

The spider screech rang in her ears. She glanced at the leg of the spider resembling that of sharp black spears being raised into the air.

It then stabbed it down towards her. Amelia was able to react quickly and step to the side before swinging her knife at its leg.

The knife sunk halfway into the leg. Amelia's eyes widened in shock.

The spider screeched at the lowly creature before raising its leg again to skewer it.

Amelia backed off again before running away and began constructing a plan of attack.

'My knives are sharp enough to cut it, but...'

The spider lunged at Amelia again with another one of its eight legs. She slashed towards the leg, but it only resulted in the knife getting stuck halfway into its leg again.

Quickly pulling it back out, she backed away - narrowly avoiding a stab from the spider.

She sprinted towards a leg she already slashed before and swung at it. The knife met the other side of the leg and was cut previously before cleaving through it.

The spider recoiled back while its screeches resounded through the area. The leg that was severed fell to the ground.

The spider leaked out black and bluish blood from its wound.

"If I just cut off your legs, then I'll probably win, right?"

Amelia held up her knives and pointed one of them at it.

"I refuse to become a burden to my friends. So come!"

The previous timid expression Amelia once held is no longer there.

Instead, she wore an expression purely that of confidence and the desire to be no longer useless.
