Golden finger, what's my cheat?

Kai thought deeply at which player he should choose from.

Kai has been waiting for this moment. He has dreamt about the player he would learn a skill from. His desire was to have a Ronaldo or a Messi, and he thought that it will be an easier challenge if he learns a skill from a Brazilian. Kai got a big grin on his face. He knew that this choice would determine his future. If he picked the best of the bunch, his chances to become a great footballer would increase dramatically.

This was an opportunity he wouldn't pass up.

Should he choose a goalscorer? Kai questioned if this would be an excellent choice. If he learned from any of those elite attacking players, he would be a fatal player that every defender would fear. Kai wanted to go down this path. He always liked scoring goals, he like footballers that are playing with the ball, and he like skillful footballers.

Kai judged if he is suited to go down this path. There was worry in his heart as he shook his head.

'No, even though I have transmigrated, I have to be realistic and not waste my chance.'

Kai rejected this idea. The scrawny teenager was never a player that had any chance of being handed an attacking duty. Even when he played some football game with his friends, he would alway play defence because he was just that scrawny and frail. He has no chance of being handed this role.

His thoughts shifted towards a midfielder. This appeared to be a promising route for Kai's development. Midfielders are known to be well-rounded. They must contribute both in attack and in defence.

Kai also liked how midfielders are usually quite solid players. Being versatile and capable players that are the engine of every team. Midfielders aren't particularly flashy, but the skillful ones are the ones that make every team tick. They may not be the fastest but they do possess the most tactical brain.

What about defenders? Should he learn from a defender instead? If he learnt from a defender, he would be the last line of defence for any football teams. Defenders are known for their swift legs and monstrous aerial reach. They can tackle players with strength and most are able to jump extremely high.

But thinking about this made Kai realise why he wasn't suited to be a defender. He was short, scrawny, frail, and the most cowardly player ever known to mankind. If Kai was to defend against Diego Costa or Zlatan Ibrahimovic, he would be killed in less than 30 seconds!

Kai had been kidding himself when he even considered learning form a defender. But knowing the obvious choice he should make, Kai made his decision.

'System. Activate Skill Mastery.'

[ Have you chosen your player? Host? ]

Kai had a smile as he enthusiastically declared which footballer to learn from.

'Kevin De Bruyne!'

Kai didn't have any hesitance as he chosen debatably the best attacking midfielder before he transmigrated. The Belgium footballer is one of its kind, and he is the most talented player at the moment. Although, his contract was coming to an end, it appeared that the Premier League team Manchester City was interested in his services, and for good reason.

Pep Guardiola favoured De Bruyne's creativity , dribbling ability and most importantly, his fantastic passing ability. Any midfielder wouldn't want to face De Bruyne as they would look silly in front of him.

He wasn't afraid to take on anyone as he would try to dribble from behind or pass to his teammates with the exact moment it would be the hardest for their opponent to intercept. All the players knew that the best thing about him was that he was quite unpredictable and he would always aim to help the team as much as possible, even when they were losing.

Manchester City picked up the best creative midfielder, and that was a crucial part of their Premier League dominance. If Kai could learn a skill or two from De Bruyne, he will see an improvement in himself. This would help him on his journey to become the best player in the world.

'Open system status.' Kai voiced in his head after reading the messages. There was actually a status screen? Would this be a profile of me? What would the status menu show me?

Kai read many webnovels in the past. The systems mostly evaluated the host's ability and talent. Thinking about this, Kai got super excited as he was very curious about how the system would rate him.

This system...

Kai felt heartbroken by how hard the system has rated him. But thinking about this critically, the system is fair to some extent. Kai is ashamed of his football skills. He can't even pass a football properly. Let alone striking the ball, he doesn't even know the proper technique to kick a ball.

As a result, Kai received an overall low score which revealed how pathetic he was. He felt overwhelmed by all these. But Kai didn't feel discouraged, as this only made him want to work even harder to achieve his dreams.

Whilst Kai was interacting with the system. There was a football match happening in front of him. Kai sat on the bench whilst he viewed his teammates playing on the pitch.

However, it was at this moment that Kai noticed a commotion on the field. After the rest time has finished, the two U-19 sides battled strongly to break the 0–0 score. The match was heavily in Manager Marley's favour as the tactician had tactically set up the team to succeed.

Marley is the youth team manager that Kai must impress. If he doesn't perform well, then his chances of being a professional footballer is over!

Their opponent's defence held firm and denied the unlucky striker Leroy. Manger Marley wanted the match to continue like this. However, a series of events forced manager Marley with little choice but to respond.

The team's Right Defender sprained his ankle which put the defence under extra pressure. Fabian received the injury in the match and had been struggling in the game from the 60th minute onwards.

Realising that Fabian was in no condition to continue, Manager Marley eyed the bench.

"Kai, Kai!"

At the critical moment, Kai was chosen to replace the injured Fabian as Right Defender.

"MR MARLEY I AM READY!"

Kai rejoiced as he received a massive opportunity. He didn't know what he can do playing in this position, but surely with his new [ De Bruyne Vision ], he can make some miracle.

"Kid, get on the pitch and defend well." Manager Marley stated as he eyed the scrawny Asian that is bubbling with anticipation.

In the manager's heart, he was cursing at how unlucky he was with player injuries. So many players got injured all at the same time. He was frustrated because a trial player would make a substitute appearance.

Marley shook his head. "Damn it. I am lucky if this trash doesn't mess anything up. Geez, if he doesn't defend properly, I swear I will end his trial contract at this instant!"

Kai didn't know what the manager was thinking in his head. But he knew that this would be the moment he would either begin his journey towards a football star or fail before the journey has even begun.

"Thank you for filling in for Fabian. Now get to the back!" A player around Kai's age shouted. It was none other than the sharp-chinned, lanky blond Gérald Roys.

Kai knows Roys very well. Even though it wasn't openly stated, Roys is a leader of the team and his words carry an impressive amount of authority.

Kai eagerly nodded before positioning himself on the pitch. On the sidelines, the injured Fabian was worriedly watching his substitute.

As Roys evaluated the stranger that was on the pitch, the midfield captain dominantly controlled the ball as he aimed to find his attacking teammates.

The team attacked with vigour, but it was clear that their right flank wasn't even a threat. The enemy team noticed when Kai got on the pitch, the entire right-wing became very weak in attack.

This was noticed by both teams, but Marley couldn't do anything to amend this as he lacked options from the bench. The team's Right Winger became very conservative, not willing to attack as he was worried Kai might make a mistake.

Whenever Kai has the ball at his feet, his teammates would scream for the ball. Whenever Kai had one too many touches on the ball, they would lose their voices due to screaming non-stop at Kai.

Kai didn't understand. He didn't know why his teammates were not even giving him some time on the ball. But after some careful thinking, Kai naturally discovered why they didn't want him to even touch the ball.

"You look down on me!? HUMPH."

His lack of experience on the pitch and his poor control of the ball lead his teammates to believe Kai was an amateur. They didn't believe Kai deserved to be on the field with them. His teammates demanded the ball because they believed they are far superior to him. They started to belittle Kai, believing a disaster would strike if he had the ball for too long.

"W-wait, that's it... I need to show everyone that I am capable of playing football!"

But Roys stepped up and put things in perspective as he ridiculed Kai.

"Shut up! You're new. Just stay there and defend properly."
